CSI President Dr. Tomás D. Morales and his wife Evy were presented with The Les Trautmann Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions to the People of Staten Island award at the annual Fall Dinner of Project Hospitality.
"Les Trautmann's lifetime of civic leadership as the Editor of the Staten Island Advance is remembered each year at this dinner. He immersed himself fully in the life of our community and shaped the community-centered mission of the Staten Island Advance for years," began community leader Norma D'Arrigo, the Dinner co-chair, during her introductory remarks. "Tonight we honor Dr. Tomás and Evy Morales, two Staten Islanders who have given of themselves fully to our community."

Gov. Paterson Announces $839K Noyce Grant for Teacher Education The exceptional efforts of the College of Staten Island to train tomorrow's teachers recently received a significant boost by way of an $839K National Science Foundation (NSF) Robert Noyce grant.
The funding, announced Tuesday by New York State Governor David Paterson, builds upon the success of the College's highly successful Teacher Academy program. Renamed the Teacher Education Honors Academy, the program maintains its mission to produce excellent teachers of math and science who will teach in high-need schools.

Campus Members Join SI African Parade
Members of the College of Staten Island community demonstrated their support for the Borough's rich African American, African, and Caribbean history by taking part in the Third Annual Staten Island African Parade.
Approximately 50 CSI students joined the procession. They were accompanied by College President Dr. Tomas Morales, Provost and Senior Vice President Dr. William Fritz, Vice President for Student Affairs Gerald Jones-Woolfolk, and Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences Dr. Christine Flynn Saulnier. Leading the Way to Staten Island's Future
Great leadership is always in demand, especially on Staten Island, which continues to face challengesas
its residents work to improve the quality of life in the borough. Once they have honed their skills, leaders also need to connect with one another so that they may find solutions to the problems that we all face.
In an effort to train tomorrow's leaders, and ensure that they form a network, CSI launched The Staten Island
Leadership Institute in 2003 and the Institute just celebrated its sixth graduation. According to Hugo Kijne,
Executive Director of Continuing Education and Professional Development at CSI, the Institute's purpose is "to
provide a forum where emerging community and business leaders come together in an environment that fosters growth
