New Dean of Research and Graduate Studies
Following a nationwide search and extensive campus participation, Dr. William Fritz, CSI Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, is pleased to report to the College community the appointment of Dr. E.K. (EUN) Park as the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies at CSI, effective October 1, 2009. Dr. Park is an accomplished scholar, teacher, and administrator. Prior to joining CSI, Dr. Park held the position of National Science Foundation Program Director in the Division of Computing and Communications Foundation (CCF) and the Division of Computer and Network Systems (CNS). Dr. Park was a Professor in, and Chair of, the Department of Software Architecture (it became the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering) at the University of Missouri. He was also a Research Scientist and Fellow at the Naval Research Lab in Washington, DC. Dr. Park's background includes industrial experience in computer systems and software-related projects.

Morales Receives Honorary Degree from American College of Thessaloniki
CSI President Dr. Tomás D. Morales received the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from the American College of Thessaloniki (ACT), at the school's annual commencement ceremony in Greece. ACT is a longtime study abroad partner with CSI.
ACT President Richard L. Jackson, who bestowed the degree on Dr. Morales, noted Morales's "broad bicoastal and international vision of higher education and the dynamic role that he is playing in it," and mentioned the CSI President's impressive record of having held "senior administrative positions at the three largest public university systems in the United States, and I believe in the world: the California State University System, the State University of New York, and The City University of New York." Public Safety Revamps Office and Website to Serve a Safer Campus
 The Office of Public Safety at CSI and its director, Paul Murtha, have been busy overhauling the Office and its Website in an effort to better serve and inform the College community.

Producing Successful Cinema
When Isen Robbins, son of CSI Enginee ring and Physics Professor Irv Robbins, left Tottenville H igh School to come to CSI, he decided to study psy chology. That plan soon became sidetracked after he took an elective class in filmmaking.
Robbins recalls, "I'd done a lot of high school plays with my interest in drama, and I love movies. I decided that it would be fun to take an elective class with Buddy Giovinazzo at CSI. Buddy put a camera in my hand, which is the first time that I held a Super 8 camera, and, as I held it in my hand, it felt a lot like a hammer, like a tool...I fell for the power of the camera very quickly at that moment and I think within a week, changed my major to cinema..." International Services Asst. Director Attends Fulbright Program in Japan
Barbara Clark, Assistant Director at CSI's Center for International Service, had a rare opportunity to hone her understanding of Japanese culture and its entire educational system, thanks to her selection as a participant in a three-week Fulbright Program for International Education Administrators (IEA) that she attended in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Hiroshima last month. The IEA program is sponsored by The Japan-United States Educational Commission.
