Merrimack College was well represented at the annual Hockey East awards banquet held on March 18th, as Stephane Da Costa (Paris, France) and head coach Mark Dennehy were awarded two of the top honors. Da Costa became the first-ever Merrimack Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Year, while Dennehy became the first-ever Merrimack Bob Kullen Hockey East Coach of the Year, sharing the honors this season with UNH's Dick Umile.
In five seasons at Merrimack, Dennehy has completely turned the program around, qualifying for the Hockey East playoffs for the first time since 2004. Although picked to finish in last place in Hockey East this season in the preseason coaches' poll, Dennehy guided the Warriors to 16 wins, most in Division I history, a sixth-place finish, and their first playoff win since 1998.
Senior Darren Duncan was named to the Men's Basketball All-American First Team by Daktronics. Duncan departs the program with 2,000 career points and led Merrimack to its third straight NCAA Tournament this season.
Merrimack has announced that it will add indoor and outdoor track pushing the total of intercollegiate sports at Merrimack from 16 to 20, beginning in the 2010-11 academic year.
