HSPC Fall Rummage Sale Update.

Yard sale
HSPC is planning a fundraiser fall rummage sale to be held on November 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at the Clear Channel parking lot on Colonel Glenn Road. We will accept the same types of items as those we request for the HSPC booth at the Mid-Towne Antique Mall, but in addition we will also accept clothing and large items such as furniture, etc.  More details will follow in future e-newsletters and on Facebook.  But it's not too early NOW to start identifying and collecting up those items that you would like to donate to help the animals.  Thank you so much.

CHANTILLY

By Jeanette Donahue

The old song starts with the words "Chantilly lace and a pretty face..." but those words don't hold a candle to the Chantilly I know. So let me tell you about her.

She's tall with long shapely legs, and the toned, muscular body of an athlete. She has big, brown, soulful eyes and beautiful black hair that has a tinge of chocolate in it. She has the jaw line of one of America's top models, the warmth of an old friend, and a mind as sharp as a steel trap.

Chantilly has many talents, and one is knowing her way around a swimming pool. She dives in with reckless abandon and throws every fiber of her being into the sport of maintaining her position among her peers, not unlike an Olympic athlete. But she's also built for speed like a thoroughbred or greyhound running like the wind for the prize.

I guess there are two main attributes that draw me to Chantilly though. Number one would be her loving nature. She oozes affection and love and makes everyone around her feel like a treasured, much loved friend. The second attribute would have to be her joyful nature. I've never seen her when she didn't have a grin from ear to ear and a "let's play" stance to her body. She's never met a stranger and thinks everyone is there just to play with her.

Chantilly is just one of hundreds of other spectacular dogs that live at the Humane Society of Pulaski County. She's lived there since October 31, 2010 but would like nothing better than to come live with you. She, like most of her fellow boarders there, is a happy, healthy, fun and loving animal that would only grow even more so if she belonged to a forever family like yours.   And she loves other dogs so she'd fit in well with the rest of your canine family!

Come fall in love with Chantilly or one of the other great dogs or cats that call the HSPC their home. They all have their own unique, fun personalities, but they all share a passionate desire to love and be loved. And you've never been loved till you've been loved by a rescued animal!

Low Cost Spay/Neuter and Vaccinations

The only way to help reduce the number of unwanted litters and the euthanasia of over 4 million dogs and cats a year (in the US alone) is through spay/neuter.  Check out this wonderful program at
You can also call them at 501 455 5400.
There is NO reason not to do it.  They also offer low cost vaccinations.  Even if you can't afford the low prices that this organization offers, they will still work with you.  Spread the word and just do it!

FuRR Awarded Petco Grant

Petco Foundation has awarded FuRR a spay/neuter grant for feral and stray cats and kittens living in managed colonies or with low-income individuals unable to afford standard sterilization costs. Rabies shots will also be included. They are very excited to have received this grant that will significantly expand their spay/neuter efforts in Central Arkansas and grossly under-served areas of the state, save hundreds more lives and greatly impact the overpopulation and needless suffering.

Individuals interested in applying for assistance can contact FuRR via email at saveacat@teamfurr.org or at (501) 661-0956.

Resale Booth

We have made almost $9,000 with the resale booth so far.  Let's see if we can make our goal of $10,000 for this year! Our donor of the week is Barbara Fryxell, owner of Obsessions Interiors. Barbara generously donated a huge quantity of beautiful items that will generate many many dollars for the dogs & cats. Thank you Barbara! And thank you to Ann Jones for all your hard work making this so successful and profitable.  All the homeless animals at the shelter appreciate you!  Let's keep the momentum going and raise even more money.

Join us in Celebrating our 20th Anniversary of Reigning Cats & Dogs

Friday, October 19 at the William J Clinton Library, Little Rock, Arkansas

Tickets

The Humane Society of Pulaski County will host its 20th Annual "Reigning Cats and Dogs" Friday, October 19 in downtown Little Rock. This popular fundraiser supporting our animals and honoring our friends who love them will continue to be a great night of entertainment and live and silent auction.

We invite you to join the efforts of many dedicated people to committing to helping the animals at the Humane Society. Your donation of an auction item or service will go a long way to success of the evening and to the Emergency Medical Fund that provides treatment for hundreds of animals. All donations are tax deductible and this is a wonderful way for businesses to promote their products and services.

The Humane Society of Pulaski County receives no government funds or support. It is only through private donations and fundraising events that we are able to care for the needs of the homeless animals. Because of rising expenses associated with this event, we are making a few changes to insure that the animals still receive maximum benefit from the fund-raiser. Businesses or individuals whose donations are valued at more than $100 will receive one complimentary ticket to the event. Those donations valued at $200 or more will receive two. Your support of this event will be greatly appreciated!

                               Foster program

We have many animals who would love to get out of the shelter for a little while.  Some are orphan babies, some are older dogs who need socialization, and some would like to recover in a nice quiet home after surgery.  We pay for everything--all you supply is the time and love.  Click here for information
  or contact Christine at
clhenderson1@gmail.com

Some lucky dogs and cats are permanent fosters, especially those with ongoing medical problems.  We encourage people to take in these special-needs animals without having to worry about future vet bills.

Spanky

Sparky is a 7-year old poodle mix who is still looking for his forever home.  He has a heart murmur, but it hasn't affected him at all.  He also has a cataract in his left eye but sees will enough to get around.  He spent the night at a volunteer's house earlier this week and got along well with other dogs in the home.  He didn't have any accidents in the house and knew how to go outside to take care of business. He was at a mobile adoption event on Friday and was such a good boy.  He greeted everyone he met and was a perfect gentleman. If you would like to adopt or foster Sparky, please call the shelter at 227-6166 or call Christine at 258-4580 (Christine@warmhearts.org)

Meet the Staff

Eric and Joy
Eric and Joy
Meet Eric, one of the caring and compassionate staff members at HSPC.  Eric has been with us for over a year now, and it is because of him that many of our dogs have found their forever homes.  Eric is currently working in the puppy room, and he knows each and every dog by name.  He knows their personalities and works with them to calm their fears so they can learn to trust again.  He's always sad when one of his little ones go home but happy that they have found a good family to care for them.  Thank you Eric for making a difference in the lives of the animals and for brightening the day for those who have the pleasure of working with you.  We wish you many more years as a part of the HSPC family.

    Birthday Parties

If you would like to have your birthday party at the shelter, contact Sharon at
l_e_may2003@yahoo.com
It's lots of fun for kids and adults with opportunities to play with the dogs and cats at the shelter.  There's also fun crafts and activities.  We ask for a minimum donation of $100 to the shelter.  We can only hold the parties on Sundays, but be sure and book in advance as these spots go quickly.

    Kroger Cards

Kroger is redesigning its charitable giving program making it easier to give.  In about two weeks, the new program will be up and running.  Instead of buying special Kroger gift cards, you may use your Kroger plus card.  As soon as we get the word, you will need to enroll your Kroger Plus card online, and that's it!  We'll keep you posted!
