Conference Annual Gathering Update

As of today, no further CAG advanced mailings will be sent from the Conference office. If your registration is received after today, you will receive all of your CAG materials at Drury during registration.

What's one of your earliest memories of the conference?
What does the conference mean to you now?

Think about your answers to those questions so you will be prepared to participate in our Conference Oral History Project. We'd like people of all ages to participate and it doesn't matter if you've been part of the conference for only a short time. Also, if you've only been involved at the association level, you are still part of the conference and have something to contribute.

Your next big opportunity to be represented will be at the Conference Annual Gathering where we will have a recording booth staffed and ready to capture your remarks. Can't make it to CAG but would like people from your church or association to be represented? Find someone with a camcorder and record some answers to these questions to submit to the Oral History Project Team.

For more information visit the Oral History table at CAG or contact Joy Dressel at 636-256-1736

Photo of the Week!

 Wessels

The Spirit of Pentecost was made evident in worship at Eden UCC, Afton with tulle in flame colors strung from the apex of the balcony to the front of the sanctuary. The chancel choir's voices and the preaching of Rev. Karen Knodt, who is serving as Interim Pastor, added to the spirit of the service.

North Carolina: Call for Volunteer Work Groups

In September 2011, Hurricane Irene flooded the Southeastern part of the United States. The North Carolina coast was one of the locations that suffered significant damage to homes. The United Church of Christ is partnering with the United Methodist Church in this recovery. Volunteer work groups are needed. The North Carolina Methodist Conference is providing volunteer coordination and construction supervision for all projects.

The link below will take you to registration information.

Plant Your Vote for Our Friends in Bridger, SD.

Edy's is bringing fresh fruit to deserving communities across the U.S. Take a minute to vote-and help decide where they'll plant orchards this year. You can stop back and vote once a day. And as always, be sure to tell all your family and friends!

(This is based at a UCC congregation.) "The Bridger Community Garden is located in the rural community of Bridger, SD. We are located in Ziebach County on the Cheyenne River Lakota reservation. Ziebach County is presently listed as the poorest county in the United States, we will not let that define us, and we will continue to seek ways to enrich our lives through sustainable gardens.Bridger

We are a small community located 82 miles from all Tribal agencies, which makes it extremely difficult to make a living out here. Our closest store is 32 miles one way away from our home and the cost of food is high, especially fresh fruit and vegetables.

We are working toward self-empowerment, self-sustainability and increase in our own self-worth. Our motto is: Who defines your destiny, do not wait for the Federal, State or Tribal governments to come and give us what they feel we need to live, let's create our own destiny by stepping out and creating a path that will enable us to become self- sufficient.

We presently have a co-operative chicken coop, that provides fresh eggs, a community garden to provide fresh vegetables and that is why we are applying for this program, to provide fresh fruit for our community and for our future."

Until the end of May visit www.communitiestakeroot.com

and register to vote in the Edy's Ice Cream Grant contest which will supply fruit orchards to the 5 top winners in the contest.

Log in once and register with your e-mail address, make up a pass word and bookmark the site and you can vote once a day until the contests end.

If Bridger does not get into the top 5 by the end of May, if they remain in the top 10 (they are in 7th place right now) they will move into the top 5 as the winners will be removed, and if they can stay in the top 5 in the next round of voting will be able to win an orchard in the next round.

Please vote - this could make a big difference in the lives of our friends!

Mount Tabor Community Garden

A vacant, grassy lot belonging to Mount Tabor UCC has been transformed into a beautiful Community Garden. With the help of a grant from Gateway Greening and the Lindenwood Neighborhood Association, 11 raised beds, a compost bin and assorted flower beds, now adorn this space. Each bed in the garden is 10' x 4' and is maintained by a volunteer from the community. They are free to plant what they want and maintain their own garden. As a group, they keep the grass cut and trimmed.

Mount Tabor has ownership of one of the beds and is experimenting with "square foot" gardening and succession planting. The children in the Sunday School also participate with this project. The vegetables that are harvested will be donated to Joint Neighborhood Ministry. Please keep the garden in your prayers as they embark in this new ministry.
