DC District Diva Brings Awareness to Mental Health Issues with Black Christian Webseries "Broken Cisterns"
Washington, D.C. -- Urban filmmaking organization Rockstone Foundation teamed up with the Black Women's Entertainment Network to sponsor a Black webseries screenwriting contest.
DCDistrictDiva.com's Brooke Obie has been selected as a top ten finalist in the contest for her Christian-based screenplay Broken Cisterns.

The pilot episode of Broken Cisterns follows the lead character, 26-year old attorney Willow Tanner, as her seemingly perfect life falls a part with one heart-breaking announcement.  With the help of her three best friends and a Christian therapist, Willow tries to start her life over again.

On August 15th, RFI and the BWE Network will announce one winner based on a combination of the votes of a panel of industry judges -- ranging from a Black Entertainment Television programming director to producers and film directors -- and the popular vote. The winner will receive up to $10,000 to produce her screenplay with BWE.

The "Best Faith-Based Blog of 2011" winner hopes that her webseries will:

show Black women in a positive, three-dimensional light.  My aim is to break down the dangerous stereotype that "Black women are strong," because it can lead to ignoring mental, emotional and physical health issues to avoid being seen as "weak" My characters are  Black Christian women who are strong enough to seek therapy in order to successfully process and channel the pain they are experiencing. My webseries brings awareness to depression, alcoholism and the help that's available through therapy and rehabilitation programs.
