Greetings!

This year is flying by, Spring is well and truly here, April showers have taken on a whole new meaning!

I was very happy this month to be invited along to the 50th anniversary of a local dog training club as a guest speaker.  It was a great evening with a great bunch of people, what was originally a 30 minute slot turned into a 2 hour talk! I was clearly on a roll!

I also have some great news to share with you all, Suffolk New College would like to include my Dog Workshops into their prospectus which I'm very excited about and will keep you posted as to when they start.

Finally, this month Holiday Dogs have arranged a charity walk in Kesgrave on 12th May so hope to see you there if you can make it, more details below.

Thanks for reading.

The importance of being Calm

I recently helped a family with their little dog who had managed to turn their lives up side down.

His main problem was around Perceived Danger, he would bark at passers by, then going into a blind panic and would try to destroy the closest thing to him at the time.  He would also attack the television when he saw animals or feet! He would bark at his owners if they dare move around the house without his permission, the telephone was also one of his bug bares!

Dogs will be drawn to calm in a moment they perceive to be a crisis whether we believe it to be or not.  We share this with them.  We will be drawn to somebody who is calm and clearly in control of the situation.

We were able to prove this theory as during the consultation, the phone rang which would usually send him into a barking frenzy, we all stayed calm and the phone was answered and he simply didn't react which was a great start to helping this little boy.

They have a long road ahead of them but have already started to see marked improvement.

As Kipling once said, 'If you can keep you head, when all about are losing theirs, you're a leader'.

Dog Workshops

Let the dogs do the talking!

How does your Dog's Mind Work?

Thinking DogDog workshops cover a wide range of aspects such as gaining and maintaining leadership, learning about your dog's body language and being able to successfully communicate with your dog without the need of force, pain or gadgets, making it possible to eliminate all non-medical behavioural problems.

These workshops are unique, as unlike the traditional training classes, these are specifically for you, the owner, enabling you to gain the most out of your time spent within the class, and then carrying out everything you have learnt from the comfort of your own home. This is far better for both you and your dog to enjoy communicating within your natural everyday home environment.

Holiday Dogs Charity Walk

Holiday Dogs Group Walks (sponsored by Hudson Signs) are designed to give dogs and owners a chance to meet and greet, and to basically go for a group walk together.

Walks are open to any age or ability and are at various locations around Suffolk, usually lasting around 1 hour to 1 hour 30mins.

Due to the popularity of these walks, Holiday Dogs decided to raise money for the Animal Health Trust to help them with their investigations into Seasonal Canine Illness.
