NWRL Summer Reading Program Wrap-Up with the Okee-Dokee Brothers

NWRL

Every summer NWRL offers a Summer Reading Program in all seven branches. This year's Summer Reading Program theme was "Dream Big...READ!"  They have programs to encourage kids and families to come into the library and have fun all summer long. There are also ways for kids to earn prizes through reading.

The NWRL Summer Reading Program wrapped-up this week with performances at each library by the Okee-Dokee Brothers. The Okee-Dokee Brothers are a Minnesota duo that write and sing bluegrass and folk music for kids. They were a huge hit with the kids...and adults! They were so popular Thief River Falls even had a family come from Minot, ND just to see the them perform!

Blue Ribbon Reader Winner

NWRL

This year the Minnesota Committee for the Summer Reading Program and Young Adult Services again sponsored a Blue Ribbon Reader contest. The winner of the Blue Ribbon Reader Program receives a pack of four tickets to the Minnesota State Fair. Tickets can be used any day of the Fair. All libraries in the state of Minnesota are encouraged to participate.

Each library in NWRL selected one child whom had participated in the Summer Reading Program this summer to be considered in the drawing for the Blue Ribbon Reader.

This year's NWRL Blue Ribbon Reader Winner is Kendal Rantanen of Thief River Falls. Kendal is 7 years old and will be in 2nd grade this year. She loves to read. She reads every day and every chance she gets. If she gets up early, or if she just can't fall asleep, she will pick up a book and read. Her favorite books are The Sisters Grimm, by Michael Buckley. Congratulations Kendal!
