2013 Legacy Program Plan

NWRL

On Nov. 4, 2008, Minnesota voters approved a proposed Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment, increasing the sales and use tax rate beginning July 1, 2009, by three-eighths of one percent on taxable sales until the year 2034.

Minnesota's Legacy Amendment raises revenue for Clean Water, Outdoor Heritage, Parks and Trails, and Arts and Cultural Heritage. Libraries have been beneficiaries of a portion of the Arts and Cultural Heritage funding.

With the monies that the Northwest Regional Library has received we have been able to bring author, artists, and entertainers to your local communities.

Looking into 2013 we are looking to bring a variety of programing to the region. To kick off the new Legacy year we are excited to be welcoming the Minnesota Crime Wave in November. The Minnesota Crime Wave is composed of three great Minnesota Authors: William Kent Krueger, Ellen Hart, and Carl Brookings.

Moving into 2013, a musical group is planned for January/February to brighten up the cold, dark winter days. In March, we're planning for an Irish husband and wife team, Paddy O'Brien doing music, and his wife, author Erin Hart, whom writes Irish Mysteries to help us get in the spirit for St. Patrick's day.

And finally looking ahead to summer and the Summer Reading Program, we'll have the Red River Zoo bringing a great animal program to our libraries.

Little Minnesota Author Jill Johnson

 Greenbush, Hallock, and Warren.

"All the tiny towns are going to be gone in a few years." Could it be true that all the little towns would be gone forever? This quote got Jill Johnson, thinking and prompted her and her husband  to began a journey across Minnesota to explore 100 incorporated cities with a population around 100.

Jill and her husband Deane will be in Greenbush, Hallock, and Warren talking about the journey that took them all over our great state and signing books. In the book each town has a photo gallery, a story of how and why the city was founded, and where it stands today. The book also lists the men and women from each town who have died while serving in the military.
