A Successful Night of Backyard Birding!

Thief River Falls Library
On Monday, October 24th, Heidi Hughes from the Agassiz Audubon Society packed the house at the Thief River Falls Public Library.

Hughes, author of "The Expert's Guide to Backyard Birdfeeding," talked to a standing room only crowd and gave advice on a wide range of birdfeeding topics including what type of bird feed to use, what type of bird feeders to use, how to attract certain birds to your backyard, and how to get certain birds to avoid your backyard.

Audience members came with their questions, and Heidi had answers.

Q: Do you have a problem with wasps building nests in your bird houses?
A: Rub bar soap on the underside of the roof.

Q: Want an easy way to attract birds to your yard?
A: Start with a simple bird bath.

Heidi will be doing presentations regularly at the Thief River Falls Public Library on a variety of nature-related topics. Her next visit will be on November 28th at 6:30 p.m. when she will be talking about "Owls, Owls...Fantastical Fowls."
