Happening This Week

 

In the Hallock Library this week join Peggy for story hour on Tuesday, September 13, at 11:00 a.m. with Exploding Volcanoes. Join us Thursday, September 15, at 6:00 p.m. for Thursday Night at the Movies!      

 

The Red Lake Falls Library will hold the Support Group meeting for Parents of Disabled Children, Thursday, September 15, at 7:00 p.m. Join us Friday, September 16, at 10:30 a.m. for story time!  

 

Story time at the Roseau Library is Tuesday, September 13, at 10:30 a.m. "Let's Talk About Books" fall session starts Thursday, September 15, at 7:00 p.m. Be prepared to suggest which books to discuss! 

 

Thief River Falls Library Friends of the Library will meet Monday, September 12 at noon in the meeting room. Thursday, September 15 at 1:00, Darcie the Librarian will be on KTRF radio. Tune in to catch the latest book buzz! Also on Thursday, the Evening Book Club is meeting at 5:15 p.m. to discuss The Year of Living Biblically, by A.J. Jacobs. This is bound to be an interesting discussion, please join us. At 6:45 p.m. that evening is story time, followed by Family Fun at 7:00 p.m. with lots of apple fun!

 

Join Dawn in Warren for toddler time Tuesday, September 13, at 1:30 p.m. On Wednesday, September 14, at 3:30 join the scavenger hunt! Join in the fun on Friday, September 16, at 10:30 p.m. for story time!    

 

Come and support the Warroad Librarian Barb on Saturday, September 17, as she walks with her dog Beijing in the "Walk to End Alzheimer's" Her team name is:  "A Librarian, a Dog and Wide Open Spaces to Trot."

Photo Contest  

Northwest Regional Libraries

Wide open spaces to share your talent! Submit your original Northwest Minnesota landscape photo, along with a corresponding caption, for a chance to be featured on the Northwest Regional Library website!

 

A total of 12 photos will be chosen, and will appear on the site for a duration of 3 months. Credit to the photographer will appear alongside the photo. Residents in all of the Northwest Regional Library communities are welcome to submit an entry.

 

Eligibility:

Residents of Roseau, Kittson, Marshall, Pennington and Red Lake counties are eligible.  

 

Entries will be selected in three categories:

Youth: 12 & under
Teen: 13-18
Adults: 19+ 


Theme:
Wide Open Spaces

Entrants are encouraged to submit a Northwest  Minnesota landscape photographs depicting our communities in any season. Along with your photograph, please submit a corresponding "Wide Open Spaces" caption to appear with your photo. Examples can be viewed on the current landscape photo slideshow on the website homepage. All captions must start with "Wide Open Spaces..." Examples of captions include:

- "Wide open spaces to grow and learn"
- "Wide open spaces to dream"
- "Wide open spaces to reflect"

 

Rules:

Only original photography may be submitted. By entering the contest, photographers agree to have their winning entry published on the Northwest Regional Website homepage. All persons appearing in a submitted photo must have a signed a photo release form included with submission. Photo release forms can be picked up at all library branches or can be downloaded here. 

 

Entry Preparation:

Only digital entries will be accepted. Please ensure that your image is a color JPG, 300 DPI, and 14 x 4 in.

"The Lake People" 

Warroad Library 
On Thursday, September 29, the Warroad Public Library invites you to an evening with "The Lake People" ( All who have lived, worked, and enjoyed Lake of the Woods). Guest Speaker will be William Kent Krueger, Author of "Northwest Angle"

At 6:00 p.m. Mingle...Munch on Snacks...Swap Stories---other lake authors will be in attendance.

At 7:00 p.m. Author William Kent Krueger will speak of his experiences writing a mystery novel set at the NW Angle.

The Friends of the Library are holding a fund raiser around the event with nine awesome Raffle items:
a copper mirror, a bird house, metal garden flower, concrete bird bath,106 quart container of Mega Blocks, a bushel of children's books, six towers of adult bestsellers, jeweled clipboard, or Be a Character in William Kent Krueger's upcoming novel.

The items have all been donated. Buy a book of 10 tickets for $5.00 dollars. The tickets were set up so that you initial what you want to win. There will be a drawing for each item; therefore your chances of winning are greatly increased!
