"The Pied Piper"  and Flute Making

Red Lake Falls Library

On Wednesday, July 13, at 3:00 p.m.  at the Red Lake Falls Library, children and  parents participated in a Summer Reading

Program event focusing on Germany, within the "One World Many Stories" theme.

Mary Abrahamson told the old German folktale "The Pied Piper of Hamelin"  and helped children assemble a construction paper flag of Germany and other hands-on activities.  This was followed by a special session with Pastor Joseph Abrahamson who talked about different types of pipes, whistles and flutes and demonstrated from what variety of materials they can be made.

The kids were able to see and play the various wind instruments Mr. Abrahamson brought along, which he had made from such things as pvc & metal pipe, bamboo, rhubarb stalk, reed grass and other odd materials. Then each of the children took part in crafting their own simple flute from a 1" diameter bamboo stalk, which they got to take home with them.

This was an intriguing, educational and very unique program, and the Red Lake Falls Library staff and Summer Reading Program kids thank Pastor and Mrs. Abrahamson for sharing their talents and knowledge.

Summer Reading Program

 Grygla Link Library

This year's Summer Reading Program theme is "One World, Many Stories." All of the libraries in Northwest Regional have incorporated this theme in many different ways. The Grygla link site was also had a unique way to bring this theme to life. On June 9, with the help of patrons, Grygla Librarian Karen lined up a variety of interesting things from around the world to show off to the young patrons participating in the Summer Reading Program.

Patron Connie Moe and husband had adopted two of their children, a boy and a girl, from Korea. They were gracious enough to bring and display the clothes that Korean's traditionally dress their children in for their first birthdays. Another patron brought a native dress from Korea, along with photo albums from a trip.

Along with photos and other items from exotic locations there was also food from around the world, made by patrons of the Grygla Link Library. There were clazones, almond cookies, and Korean Oyster Chicken. Delicious!  All in all a great time was had by everyone!
