Traveling to Egypt

Red Lake Falls Library

Barb Seeger of Red Lake Falls did the Summer Reading Program presentation this week on the country of Egypt in keeping with the "One World, Many Stories" theme.  She brought many items: pieces of art, jewelry, utensils, as well as food for display and sharing in order to convey some of the customs, history, social life and hobbies of the Egyptian people.

About 20 children & parents enjoyed Mrs. Seeger's presentation. They tasted Egyptian bread, maneuvered through a simulated pyramid passage and stenciled colorful images of Egyptian symbols, among other fun things.

Her knowledge and experience come from personal experience hosting an Egyptian exchange student during the 1990's, and from the travels her own children have made to the country. Many thanks to Barb Seeger for a wonderful glimpse at things Egyptian, and to all those who came to enjoy this event!

Steamroller Art

The Northwest Regional Libraries hosted ArtOrg's Steamroller Art June 15 through June 22nd. Steamroller Art is an outdoor event featuring a small steamroller that makes prints for both kids and adults.

The process of making a print is quite straight forward. When guest arrive, they check in, get their supplies, and sit down under the tent to cut up materials to make a personal printing block. The ArtOrg team take the finished block and roll it up with ink. Each inky block gets put on the runway with a piece of paper on top. At this point, they start up the steamroller and roll over it. Once it is thoroughly inked, the artist peels back the paper to reveal a wonderful art print, their very own piece of original Steamroller Art.

Great fun is had by all and everyone gets their very own orgininal art to hang in their house or room.

"We loved the Steamroller Art! Thank you so much!" Jamie Bakken, Thief River Falls
