Women's Closet Relies on Corporate Support
The YWCA Women's Closet, which was established in 1993, provides work appropriate clothing to women who are seeking employment. This includes not only professional attire, but business casual items as well as medical scrubs. Last year, there were 1,700 visitors to the Closet. While the success of the Closet depends on the generosity of local women who donate clothing and other accessories, it is equally reliant on businesses in the Green Bay community that provide much-needed financial support for operations. After School Program Launches
The YWCA After School Program launched in January with 26 participants from Howe Elementary School. The program will eventually be expanded to serve 40 students ages 6 to 12. The children were not being served by other area after school programs, and this structure during out of school time will help them make better choices.
The After School Program is just one of several youth development initiatives made possible by a $600,000 grant awarded to YWCA Green Bay - De Pere by the U. S. Justice Department. Kids can participate in year-round programs that deal with life issues such as peer pressure, alcohol and drugs, bullying, and other activities designed to build self-esteem, establish wholesome relationships, foster self-respect and help them set career goals.
