Juror Barbara Flowers stated, "The design is strong and conveys overall simplicity, yet provides complex shapes to continue drawing the viewer in. There is sophisticated color harmony, appropriate use of values and understanding of color perspective. The surface quality is outstanding, in use of large vs. small strokes, board/narrow, long and short, thick and thin.... Finally, the artist knew when to lay her brush down. She said what she wanted to say and stopped! This demonstrates much restraint!"
WPSE is dedicated to promoting women painters whose works are representational and who live in the Southeast United States (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia). We encourage members to participate in (WPSE) events, such as juried exhibitions, featured artists, and on-line exhibitions. Women artists are growing in number. We dedicate our efforts to bringing women artists to the forefront. |

Sequoia's Column
I have always loved music but now I have my own CD player so I can play all my CDs including Mozart, instrumentals, the Beach Boys and children's songs. I sing along and play my guitar. I like to sing in the shower too. I went to my first concert at the Bach Festival. I'm very excited to go to the concerts at Lake Tahoe SummerFest. |

The Forge in the Forest...Was it ever a forge?
The Forge in the Forest is located on the southwest corner of Junipero and 5th in Carmel-by-the-Sea. This very popular restaurant has a charming outdoor dining area with fireplaces and foliage that makes it a perfect setting for a quiet meal. The Forge also caters to our canine friends with a special dog menu featuring the best cuts and portions.
So, the questions is, was The Forge in the Forest every really a forge? It most certainly was. The Forge in the Forest has been a part of Carmel's history since 1944 and became a local hangout for legendary artists and writers such as Henry Miller, John Steinbeck and Francis Whitaker. The Forge was the source of many beautiful pieces of iron work. Some pieces are still around town. At the Chapman Gallery on 7th between Mission and San Carlos, the dramatic outdoor light fixtures were created at the forge.
