'Dance Of Arabians' $2,350- |
Lindsey is one of the great new impressionist artists we now have the privilege of representing. I immediately liked Lindsey's work but it was our clients fighting over who got to purchase her piece that really got my attention. Lindsey's work goes very quickly.
Lindsey's paintings immerse the viewer as spontaneous brush work creates intense light and shadow definition enticing the viewer to examine emerging shapes, values and textures. Coming from a commercial illustration background, Lindsey is able to combine powerful drawing skills with her unique expressive painterly style.
Won Award In American Impressionist Society Show
Recent awards include the William J. Schultz Award in Oils at the American Impressionist Society's 2011 National Juried Exhibition hosted by Mountainsong Galleries (that's us) in Carmel-by-the Sea, CA, Best In Show Award in the Fine Art Views BoldBrush painting online monthly competition (July, 2011), Popular Choice and Sam Savitt Award (horses in action) at the American Academy of Equine Art's 2010 National Juried Show in Georgetown, KY and Best Miniature in Show at the 2010 Western Spirit Juried Art Show, Cheyenne, WY. Selected group shows in 2011 include the Oil Painters of America National Juried Exhibition, the American Impressionist Society 12th Annual National Juried Exhibition, the First Annual Scottsdale Salon, and the American Academy of Equine Art Invitational Show at Spindletop Hall in Lexington, KY.
Lindsey's work continues to gain national recognition as she has been featured in American Art Collector, Southwest Art and Art Horse magazines. Currently living in Denver, Colorado, Lindsey is an associate member of Oil Painters of America, Women Artists of the West and the American Impressionist Society.

Scene from Inside
Tom Gundelfinger O'Neal, one of the greatest rock 'n' roll photographers of the '60's and '70's, returns to Mountainsong Galleries for a rockin' great show. Tom will be unveiling never before seen works from one of the greatest periods of our lives. Plus he will be telling the 'behind the scenes' story from each memorable photograph.

Here's a Sneak Peak...
This was backstage at the Monterey Pop. There were about 100 people backstage. No one had even heard of Jimi Hendrix. Tom took this shot just because he thought it was a cool shot of this guy in the crowd. Later that day, Jimi got into an argument with The Who. It made him so mad that he decided to burn his guitar on stage and he became an overnight sensation.
Tom has a story behind every photograph and he is telling them at the show.

Sale Of The Month
This is where we feature a particularly exciting sale.
"I Want That Painting!"
| |
Criollo Horses, Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica
by
Lindsey Bittner Graham |
The American Impressionist Society event has been a HUGE success. Over 40 of the nearly 50 paintings that sold in the first three weeks could have sold multiple times...many people said "if that piece wasn't sold, I'd buy it!"
One gentleman fell in love with a painting that had sold early in the show. He so wanted this painting that he said to us, "Call the person who bought this painting and tell him I will buy it from him...please." We explained that we could not do that. He asked again. (This painting had been purchased as a surprise Birthday gift.) When he realized we could not call the person who purchased the painting he said, "Then please call the artist and have her paint another one." We did call the artist who explained that she had commissions to work on for the next six months. We explained this to the gentleman and he was quite disappointed that he could not get the painting he loved so much. But, with 210 paintings on display he did find another wonderful piece that he loved and bought that one for his collection.

Mr. Bo Jangles' Column™
(This is the best part)
Wow, what a roof shaking party - oh I mean Award's Ceremony. I want to thank all of you for coming, especially the ones that gave me some of your food. Mom says I could charm a babushka (she means a parka) off an Eskimo. (She doesn't mean any disrespect to Eskimos, just merely commenting on my considerable charm skills.) If you come to the next party with Tom, please remember to share some food. Only when Mom's not watching though. And remember when she says, 'Please don't feed the dog', she in no way is referring to me because clearly I am not a dog! |

Sequoia's Column
I LOVE letters!!! No, not the kind people used to get in the mail but letters...A, B, C.... My favorite show is Word World. It is great. They teach me how to build words with letters. Mama is learning a lot too since she watches it with me most of the time. Dada, not so much.
I have wood letters that my Auntie gave me. I have so much fun building my own words with my own letters. The other day I built a word and Shelby asked me what it was. I said "box" and she got all excited...she asked me to do it again and made a movie of my word building. Then she sent it to Mama and Dada at the gallery and they got so excited they sent it to everyone! Then Mama told my Montessori teacher about it. I don't know what all the fuss is about...they think it's a big deal that I can build words myself. I am two and a half after all. To me, it's just fun.
You can watch it too: http://youtu.be/RMWklkhnd7g

DaDa's Column
Fun and Interesting Facts About Carmel-by-the-Sea
I finally am letting my DaDa write a column too. He loves Carmel-by-the-Sea so it seems appropriate that he writes about it.
------------------------------------------------------
Why are there no outdoor lights in the business district? Our founding fathers had a vision of Carmel-by-the-Sea being a quaint and unique little city. This vision included a stipulation that no outdoor lighting be permitted for businesses in town and no street lights either. While houses may have porch or post lamps, businesses may not.
One story that brings this point home is about our drugstore. Carmel Drug opened in 1925. The builders installed an electric sign on the façade. The sign consisted of several standard light bulbs spelling out the word DRUGS. Upon opening the store the owners turned on the sign with great pride. Their jubilation, however, was short lived. City officials heard about the sign and promptly went to the drugstore and ordered that the sign be turned off and never turned on again. And so it has been ever since. The sign is still there, with the original light bulbs. If you stand on the south side of Ocean Avenue and look above the green awning you will see it...just the way it was when it was turned off in 1925.
Over the past century many of our original buildings have been remodeled. During the remodeling process, a handful of buildings were permitted to have minimal outdoor lighting. Our gallery is one of those buildings...we have two outdoor light fixtures at our front door. A few street lights have made their way into the picture as well, but not many.
But, rest assured you will never see the ubiquitous glaring lights found in most locales. Our little city does continue to be a quaint and magical place.
