David O'Keefe is a well known artist whose subjects are mostly from Hollywood albeit in his edgier version.

David's Inspiration

"In 2006 I started working on The Godfather.  I had always been inspired by Francis Ford Coppola and his movies and I wanted to do the most magnificent painting ever.  The time on the clock over the mantle is the time when I finished the painting, 3:25 p.m. or 35 minutes to Judge Judy."

La Famiglia includes various iconic elements from the classic saga and features 13 characters including director Francis Ford Coppola.

- Luca Brasi's (Lenny Montana) huge hands signify he's the "muscle" of the organization.

- Director Francis Ford Coppola's portrait hangs over the fireplace.  Coppola fought constantly with the studio over getting the film done his way.

Mohan Basker
Mohan's journey into the art of photography began in his childhood years in India when his father bought him his first camera, an Agfa box camera.  His early years were spent taking countless photos of everyday life.  Images of roads lined with brightly colored saris and exquisitie flowering trees were the seeds of his artistic inspiration.   His travels have taken him to the remotest places throughout the world where landscapes are abundant in life and splendor.  Through his eyes we are able to feel the spiritual threads that run through a scene whether it be in the faces of people or the magical moments that lie in the tranquility of nature.

SALE OF THE MONTH

This is where we feature a particularly exciting sale.

Jimi Hendrix at The Monterey Pop in 1967

Jimi Hendrix

Already a client, a wife sent her husband in to pick up three of our very cool 3-D postcards.  At the time, she had no idea of how much that would cost!  Her husband is a big fan of Jimi Hendrix so after picking out the postcards, he was admiring Tom O'Neals rock 'n' roll photographs.  (This photo was taken backstage at the 1967 Monterey Pop before anyone knew who Jimi Hendrix was.  Jimi got into a fight with The Who over when he was going to go on stage.  At the time The Who was pretty well known and Jimi was not, so he lost.  Jimi was mad and this is what inspired him to burn his guitar.  After that night, everyone knew who Jimi Hendrix was.)  The husband said he was going to get this plus another one of Mama Cass and Michele Phillips.  Jonathan said he would wrap them up and the husband said no, just leave them up.  Jonathan said that he would put up sold tags and again the husband said no.  He explained that he would bring his wife back in the next day and show her the pieces.  So the next day, he brings in his wife and luckily she likes both pieces as well.  With a gallery full of people, he tells her that he is so glad she likes the pieces because he already acquired them!  Everyone laughed in the gallery.  He said he wanted to put them in the hallway and his wife told him that they were going in a much more prominent spot than that!

Mr. Bo Jangles
Mr. Bo Jangles
Mr. Bo Jangles' Column (This is the best part)

I know I have the cutest dog bowl in town - someone even stole one of them (luckily I had a spare).  I can't really blame them because they are just so darn cute but I have found a resolution to the problem.  I now am selling the extremely cute dog bowls (and cat bowls too but let's keep that between you and me)!  Come see me and I'll show you them.

I am now famous, by the way.  I had a fan, a thirteen year old boy, from Chicago come to see me.  Apparently some friends of his had been to Carmel and brought him back a Carmel Magazine.  I was in that issue (under the dog section - even though I'm not really a dog) and he read it.  He waited six long months to come visit Carmel himself and of course, he had to find me.   He visited me every day he was here.  I really liked him.  Quite frankly, I wasn't expecting this much fame until my book comes out.

Sequoia in Mud Puddle
Mud Puddles Are Fun
 Sequoia's Column

I discovered mud puddles.  Oh, they are so much fun.  I can jump and hop and the mud splashes everywhere.  "Oh, wow!" is all I can say.  The biggest problem with them is that I can't seem to find them all the time.  They just disappear.  I know I am looking in the same spots but they are not there.  When that's the case though, I can always use the dog's water dish.  It's almost as fun.  I just don't understand why Mom doesn't like mud puddles but at least she let's me play in them - Dad won't even let me do that!

I have expanded "my" part of the business so please come in and see what I have added!

We have been having sunny days in the seventies here!  If you are experiencing cold, ice, snow or any undesirable weather, we highly recommend you visit Carmel-by-the-Sea and of course, Mountainsong!
