Why Do Gears Go Bad (In Electric Attachments)
....usually because the operator continues to use their handpieces after the bearings have gone bad, and/or they use burs that are too course. If the shafts rotate on their correct axis, the wear to the gear is minimal since the geometry of that gear is designed for that axis. So, as soon as you hear or feel something different while using your electric attachment, send it to us for evaluation. The sooner the better can save you money on repair! |

Now that many of us are using CFL's (compact florescent lightbulbs) in our homes and offices, they will need to be disposed of when they burn out. The Air Driven High-Speed Handpiece Turbine | |
The component that fails most often on a high-speed air-driven handpiece is the turbine; as it degrades, the handpiece exhibits signs of impending failure that are all too familiar to the dental team.
Turbines rotate at speeds ranging from 380,000 to 450,000 rpms, faster than anything else on the planet. Turbine speed can be categorized as free speed and active speeds. Free speed is the max rpm with no load. Active speed is the actual speed the turbine is reduced to when the cutting instrument engages the tooth structure. Most high-speed handpieces have an active speed in the range of 180,000 to 2000,000 rpm. This extremely high speed allows the clinician to cut through hardened tooth structure with ease, leaving a smooth, clean margin, with reduced trauma to the surrounding structure and tissue. As the turbine bearings wear, speed decreases. Clinically, this results in longer prep times with slower cutting and rougher margins.
Power, also referred to as "torque", is the measure of the handpiece's ability to remove tooth structure and is expressed as watts of energy, while torque is measured in oz/inc. Handpieces used to generate 10 to 13 watts, while newer handpiece models produce 15-18 watts and have smaller head sizes. The greater the power available to operate the cutting instrument, the less physical demand is placed on the operator's hand and wrist, which means less fatigue and reduced risk of long term injury. - If you've got melted chocolate all over your hands, you're eating it too slowly
- Chocolate covered raisins, cherries, orange slices & strawberries all count as fruit, so eat as many as you want
- The problem: How to get 2 pounds of chocolate home from the store in a hot car. The solution: Eat it in the parking lot.
- Diet tip: Eat a chocolate bar before each meal. It'll take the edge off your appetite and you'll eat less
- If calories are an issue, store your chocolate on top of the fridge. Calories are afraid of heights, and they will jump out of the chocolate to protect themselves.
- Money talks. Chocolate sings.
- Q. Why is there no such organization as Chocoholics Anonymous?
A. Because no one wants to quit. - Put "eat chocolate" at the top of your list of things to do today. That way, at least you'll get one thing done.
