Orchestra and You!
March 23, 2012

Dear ASO Guild Members:

Our award-winning "Orchestra and You" program has an exciting volunteer opportunity available for next year!

We are in search of three new coordinators of this program that has been responsible for introducing literally thousands of 1st - 3rd graders throughout Greater Little Rock to the incomparable enjoyment and appreciation of classical music.

We go into a school with almost-life-size 3-D plexiglass instruments to demonstrate the "families"of an orchestra as well as the sounds of the instruments--both individually and as a full orchestra.  Three members from our Guild and a musician from the Symphony make the presentation (one narrates, one helps the children hold the instruments, and one works the CD player. The musician also speaks to students and shows off his/her instrument).  It is very educational, exciting and fun for the students, much appreciated by teachers --- and repeatedly requested each year by the schools!  The programs are given in the fall and spring (October-November, late January - April) to all Elementary schools -public and private - in the greater Little Rock area.

Alice Pfeiffer (overall Chair), Nan Alewine, Jane Farmer and Kay Russell have organized and implemented this program for the Guild for several years, and are stepping aside to allow others to participate.  Here is YOUR opportunity to help!!  There are three main positions for which we need new volunteers, with general descriptions as follows:

1)  Overall Coordinator working with co-coordinators to make sure the program is running smoothly (overall schedule, volunteers, location/care of instruments, communication with the ASO Guild Board 3rd VP)

2)  Coordinator to schedule the volunteers for each program (using phone, email, etc.)

3)  Coordinator to instruct the program volunteers (location/time of next program, directions to school, where to pick-up/drop-off instruments, etc.)

[4) Alice Pfeiffer is willing to continue as Coordinator with the schools/musicians since she still maintains good contact with them.  She will set program dates/time, make any special arrangements with the school (location within the school, directions), etc.]

**You might also consider becoming one of the volunteers who helps present the program!**

Please contact Mary Wildgen (mzwildgen@ualr.edu, phone #227-0574), Nominating Committee Chair, if you have further questions and/or are interested in helping in any way.

Thanks for your support and consideration!

Sincerely,

Betty Herron, President
