MUSIC CLINIC: WELL-BEING
AND AVOIDING INJURY

Musicians are "'small muscle athletes" who need to pay attention to their bodies not only to avoid injury, but also to perform to the best of their ability. In this free clinic Chris Hayden of Hayden Integration will work with musicians on specific issues causing pain or discomfort plus general issues such as relaxing and staying calm.
Topics include: -Stretching -Relaxation (of shoulders, arms, etc.) and basic Tai Chi techniques -Self-acupressure -Body mechanics/posture -Relaxing the mind/decreasing performance anxiety -Relating all of these things to specific problems (carpal tunnel, etc.) CHRIS HAYDENFounder of Hayden Integration, Chris Hayden is a Certified Rolfer. Rolfing is a type of massage therapy that treats injuries and works to help you become more aware of your body. It not only helps you to avoid re-injury, but also to be as healthy as possible while playing your instrument and in your daily activities. Lee Payne
|
GUITAR, ELECTRIC BASS Born with a passion for music, Lee has been playing instruments for as long as he can remember. He earned his BA at UW-Madison in Musical Performance in 2000 with a focus on classical guitar and jazz studies. His studies also included extensive theory training. Lee has been playing guitar since 1992 and has played with original bands and a few cover rock bands. Some venues include The Barrymore Theatre, Memorial Union Terrace, and Summerfest.
He has been teaching guitar lessons privately since 1999 and in group settings since 2004. As a mentor, he focuses on individual development of musicians as well as preparing students for group dynamics in the future. Each curriculum is personalized so students can reach their own goals as quickly as possible.
Lee believes that every person should get the opportunity to have a fulfilling relationship with music, whether it is casual or professional.

BLAST HOUSE STUDIOS OPEN HOUSE

This Sunday the Blast House is opening its doors for anyone to come and view this fully equipped, professional recording studio. Refreshments will be provided.

DISCOVER DRUMS & PERCUSSION
Sundays, 1:00-3:00pm
Four-part series: Nov. 6, 13, 20 plus one individually scheduled lesson*

Get hands-on experience learning the basics of a wide variety of percussion instruments. Taught in three 2-hour classes plus one private drum set lesson, students will get to play drum set, a large number of hand percussion and drums (i.e. congas, djembe, maracas, and yes, cowbell), snare drum, and mallet instruments (i.e. marimba and xylophone).
VOCAL HARMONIES Sunday, Nov 20, 1:00-3:00pm $30 | $25 MMF Students Min/max # students: 4/10 Click here for more info So you've got your guitar, your amp, you've been practicing, and the band has been rehearsing. Only problem is...who's going to sing? And man, those recordings you keep listening to with all the back up vocals sound great! Well, this class gets you going on your own vocal technique along with harmonizing with others. It will also cover how to write harmony lines and will deal with practical issues of singing on stage and through a microphone.

KEEP AN EYE OUT
| We are finalizing the details for a three-class series that we're very excited about called "The Business of Rock." This series will be in December and will feature guest speakers for each class. Topics will be 1) Promotion and Marketing, 2) Booking and Touring, and 3) Music Business 101: The Legal Issues of Music.
This is going to be a very cool series with extremely valuable information for all levels of musicians. We'll let you know when it's all set!
