NEW PROGRAMS!

Sandy on the jobOver the past year we've asked you (students, parents, teachers and working musicians) what kind of programs you'd like to see at the Foundry. We find that the people we see every week in our halls are a wonderful source of great ideas, so we've been working on bringing those ideas to fruition.

SEASON CALENDAR

We've come up with our first ever Season Calendar! There are programs for this coming summer, fall and winter/spring. Many of the details of the classes and workshops are still being hammered out, but we wanted to start letting you know what's in store.

Below in this newsletter we highlight a few of these new programs. The full details are on our website at www.madisonmusicfoundry.com/education.

What's the difference between a lesson, a workshop and a class?

Education at the Foundry is divided into three categories: Lessons, Workshops and Classes. In the education world, the terms "class" and "workshop" get used rather interchangeably but we realized that we have distinct categories of education that need differentiating. Below is the description of each aspect of education at Madison Music Foundry.

LESSONS

Lessons are simply one on one sessions with a private instructor on any instrument.

WORKSHOPS

Workshops are programs designed to help participants play in a group setting. So far Rock Workshop has been our only workshop, but now we're expanding into Jazz, Hip Hop, Grass & Roots, and Chamber Groups. Workshops require some sort of audition, weekly rehearsals and a performance.

CLASSES

Classes are basically everything else. They can be about particular topics (Music Theory, Songwriting, Music Business), certain instruments (Discover Drums & Percussion, Fiddling), or other general information relevant to musicians (avoiding injury while playing, instrument maintenance).
