Greetings!
As we leave behind the phrenetic pace of summer and begin reconciling ourselves to the slower rhythms of fall, we are reminded of the immutable forces of the seasons upon our lives. In addition to gracing us with the opportunity to savor the fruitage of our labors, autumn is also a time of reflection and replenishment. Let Balanced Beauty replenish and nurture you this season! ![]()

Did you know that according to Asian Medicine, mid-autumn is considered a good time to cleanse and strengthen your body in preparation for winter? In fact, the organ systems associated with autumn are the lungs and large intestine which make up the Metal element in Chinese Five Element Theory. What's even more interesting is that the lungs and large intestines are the very organs responsible for the health of our skin. Notice how areas of the woman's face in this picture have been labeled. The labels stand for organ systems which reflect into specific regions of the face. You'll notice that the lungs are manifest in the cheeks and the large intestine is reflected in the upper lip and nasal area. If you've noticed any changes in your skin's tone, color, or texture in these areas, like wrinkles, age spots, and dryness, then your lung and large intestine systems may need support. Here are some basic suggestions to support and cleanse your lungs and large intestines this autumn, enhancing your skin's health and beauty: juicing, skin brushing, reducing the intake of meat and fatty foods, and increasing the amount of fresh greens and vegetables. See the recipe below for our favorite green drink that you can whip up in your own blender! Finally, acupuncture is a great way to balance out body systems to support your health, beauty and wellness! To make an appointment with Maureena for acupuncture, call 818-991-2600.
