This March we are planning some crazy and creative celebrating. I put a challenge out for the children and staff to see who could find crazy and unique national holidays for March. Some of the national holidays found so far are: National Pig Day 3/1, National Anthem Day 3/3, National Dentist Day 3/6, National Pancake Day (Fat Tuesday) 3/7 National Middle Name Day 3/10, National Johnny Appleseed Day 3/11, National Potato Chip Day 3/14, National Buzzard Day 3/ 15 and National Chocolate Covered Raisin Day 3/24. We are eagerly looking forward to see what else the children find. For each of the above national holidays we will be doing a creative craft, activity and or snack. In honor of National Pig Day our snack will be pigs in a blanket.
We will also be celebrating my all time favorite author's birthday: Dr. Seuss. In addition to celebrating his birthday, the theme for March is Dr. Seuss. All crafts and activities will revolve around Dr.Seuss's books and we have almost all of them. If anyone would like to bring in a Dr. Seuss book to share we would be delighted. At the end of the month we will be celebrating with a Dr. Seuss party. A reminder notice will go out two weeks prior to our party. Please let Miss Cyndi or I know what you would like to contribute to the festivities. (All food items must come with a list of ingredients.)
St. Patrick's Day will be celebrated on Thursday, March 17th. Don't forget to wear green. All our snacks will be green that day.
Last, but not least, there is one more holiday to celebrate which is the most festive of all holidays: Mardi Gras! We will make beaded necklaces and a Mardi Gras mask. Along with the activities, we will also be eating a "knife" cake for snack. (Please do not worry, it is not real.)
The kindergarten children have been quite busy completing their alphabet puppets, poems, crafts and letters. It has taken little bit longer than expected to complete all of this, but we had a very hectic January. Now that the skies are clear we are quickly getting back on track. The children just started word families and are doing a wonderful job.
March Madness promises to be lots and lots of fun for all.
