   March 2011

Last month we talked about using a cutting board to lay your fabric on to get accurate cutting lines.  It's also important to use one when you lay your pattern onto the fabric--on the straight of the grain.

This month, we'll review the tools necessary for cutting the fabric and patterns easily and precisely.

Now that spring is around the corner, I'm finding this year's fabrics are bright, colorful prints.  Just what we need after a long, difficult winter.

I don't know about you, but I have the "itch" to make a brand new spring wardrobe.

     Sew, let's get sewing together.

Using The Right Cutting Tools Will Make It Easier For You To Complete Your Project

Having the right pair of sewing shears is essential to cutting your pattern out accurately.  They have a sharp tip to cut details such as notches, corners, or clipping seams.  Good quality sewing shears also have a knife edge that can easily be sharpened by a professional.  The sharper the scissors, the easier it will be to cut your pattern out.

Sewing shears come in right-handed styles and left-handed styles.  If you are left-handed, I highly recommend you purchase a good quality pair of true left-handed scissors. This will keep your hand from getting tired and sore.

Another tool that will help you cut your patterns out is a rotary cutting tool.  These are good for straight and curved lines.  However, you still need to use your scissors for corners, notches, and any detailed cutting.  Rotary cutters are great for when you have several layers of fabric that you want to cut at one time.
