Make cutting out patterns easier by using a cutting board
One of the most important pieces of sewing equipment that I can not live without is a cutting board. It allows me to make accurate measurements and cuts on all my sewing projects. The cutting board also protects my table tops and linens from being pinned and cut.
The top of each board is printed with a giant grid of 1" squares. Along the edges of the boards are measurements in inches, feet, and yards. These markings are very helpful when you need to cut a piece of fabric straight. You just have to lay the fabric against the edge of the board and follow the lines while cutting.
One of the most important reasons to use a cutting board is for laying a pattern down on fabric. The straight lines and ruler on the edge allow you to place the pattern piece on the straight of the grain of the fabric so your garment will fall correctly. You do this by measuring the line in the center of the pattern to the edge of the board or fabric.
