Greetings!

The circulars and newspaper advertisements we are getting in the mail are reminding us that it's almost time for back to school.  Wow.  How fast the time goes.

Soon, it'll be time to buy school supplies, clothes, back packs, etc. Instead of buying super expensive stuff, you can create a cute, less expensive wardrobe and accessories by enhancing each of the items yourself.

An easy way to personalize or dress something up is by using appliques.  In this month's edition I show you how to use store-bought ones or create your own appliques and apply them to your purchased items.

     Let's have some fun!

Having Fun With Appliques

Appliques are designs that are cut from separate pieces of fabric--or store bought--and are applied to a base fabric.

Fabric and craft stores have many different styles of appliques that you can sew or bond to a garment, towel, decorative pillow, etc.

Or you can make the appliques yourself.  For example:

Buy a piece of printed fabric that has flowers on it, or seashells, or whatever you like.  You cut the images out and use them for your appliques.

Another idea for creating appliques is find a coloring book that has very simple pictures in it to color.  For instance, the coloring book has a picture of a cat.  Cut the cat out, and use it as a pattern to cut your applique design out.  Then apply the cat to the item you want to dress up.  It's a very inexpensive way to create cute clothing or accessories for children.
