Special Event
Join United Methodist Ministries and Urban Abbey during Omaha Fashion Week as we present a thrift store fashion show! The event will take place at Urban Abbey, 1026 Jackson St., in Omaha's Old Market, with the Rev. Stephanie Ahlschwede emceeing. Models will represent UMM's community partners, emphasizing a diversity of ages, sizes and ethnicities. Hair, make-up and styling will be provided by Fringes Salon and Spa. The purpose of the event is to draw attention to the work of United Methodist Ministries and Urban Abbey, while emphasizing the "green" aspect of purchasing used fashions. The fashion show will feature clothing and Fair Trade accessories from Blue Flamingo thrift store, which is a program of UMM. The fashion show aims to highlight the range of clothing that is available by purchasing gently-used rather than new. We hope you will show your support by joining us for this fun, creative event!

Fair Trade Fundraising
You know how school fundraiser sales don't always stock items that you want or need, but you buy the items anyway to show your support for local students and schools?
Well, there's a new type of fundraiser available that sells 100% organic and Fair Trade products from Equal Exchange and Ten Thousand Villages! This program sells coffee, chocolates, tea & cocoa, jewelry, and housewares to help people all around the world!
This program gives back in many ways. First, those who sell the products learn about Fair Trade and educate others along the way. Meanwhile, the sales help small-scale farmers and artisans earn a living wage (plus other benefits). In addition, the selling organization keeps 40% of the profits. And in the end, the buyer ends up with yummy and/or beautiful products!
Please encourage your local schools, church groups, and other organizations to support our Fair Trade partners through this program. Click here for more information.
