339 (give or take) days .... What's that, you ask?
It is how long we have until our next All Saints' Christmas Bazaar! We are so thankful for all the hard work of the Bazaar volunteers. After expenses we are projecting net proceeds of $6,000-7,000 for ministry in 2012 at All Saints' Church.
On the program for this year's Bazaar were lots of 'chances' to win with Denise DeWitt and Joan Kelly
...and plenty of 'cheer' to light the way towards Christmas Day!
We have so many people to thank for this year's success! Too many to name here. But we would be remiss if we did not hold up Colleen Ryan who provided organization and oversight from the very beginning. Click here to see all 24 pictures from our 2011 Christmas Bazaar. Thanks to Walter DeWitt IV & Doris Horrell for snapping them and to Christina Jarosz for making the electronic album.

Sunday School Christmas LuncheonBefore they treated us to lunch on Sunday December 18th, members of All Saints' Sunday School performed the offertory at the 10:00 Holy Eucharist, complete with choreography, as you see in this photo. Our thanks to everyone - children, teachers and kitchen chefs - for teaching us two new offertory songs and then providing a wonderful lunch for the congregation!

Celebration of Holy Baptism
On Sunday January 8th - known in the Church calendar as 'The Baptism of Our Lord' - we will celebrate the sacrament of Holy Baptism for Brian Richard Mathes during the 10:00 Eucharist. Brian is the new son of Jennifer & William (Jenny & Bill) Mathes. Brian's big brother, William, was baptized at All Saints' last year. The Mathes family comes from Glenside to join the All Saints' community.
Ready for his turn will be Robert Armand Harmon, first-born child of Martha & Josh Harmon and grandson of Margo & Robert Hoffmaster. We will celebrate Robert's baptism at the 10:00 Eucharist on Sunday February 5th.

Why the asterisk preceding projected expenses? Because there are some budget line items we cannot project at this time. For example, a new Rector's moving expenses to relocate to All Saints'. A pension assessment has to be determined, too. What we do know is what appears to be a $45,000 surplus will, in fact, result in a projected budget deficit once all items are accurately reflected following negotiations with a permanent Rector. We have been fortunate in having a retired Interim these past two years because we did not need to budget for moving or for pension assessment. So, as you look at these figures - the real cost of operating All Saints' Church - please remember how very important your offering envelopes are to the well-being of worship and ministry here. Thanks so much and God bless.

Meal for the Hungry Coming Up
And we need volunteers to help! Saturday January 14th we will serve the Noon meal at St. Mark's Church. If you can help by coming to All Saints' kitchen to wrap and bag, some very hungry people would be grateful. When? We'll start preparing the individual lunches at 9:00 a.m. If you can be here, please let Linda in the church office know by calling 215-637-8787 or by emailing Nora Perry at tnperry568@comcast.net. Thanks very much!

 Young at Heart
Young at Heart will not meet on the first Thursday in January. The next scheduled lunch and program is Thursday January 19th at 12:00 p.m. We will resume the regular schedule of 1st and 3rd Thursdays beginning in February.

Breakfast Club Returns!
Mark your calendars for Saturday January 21st when the Breakfast Club resumes its hospitality. December's parish schedule prevented our usual get-together and January's date needs to be moved ahead one week from its usual 2nd Saturday of the month. But we're back and looking forward to seeing everyone at 9:00 a.m. on the 21st. $5 is a bargain few can top!

The Cold Weather Continues.....
as does the All Saints' Coat Drive!
Did Santa bring a special someone a new coat, some new gloves or mittens, a spiffy new hat or scarf? This is a perfect time to find a new home for your used one (or share in Santa's giving yourself if you like!).
" ... I was naked and you gave me clothing ...." Matthew 25:36 Donations may be brought to All Saints' Church on Sundays or to the office during the week. Unsure when you'll have the time to dig out those coats? We will be accepting donations from now until the end of January. Maggie McKinney will take them to her school and the counselor will give them to the children she finds most in need. Questions? Contact Maggie at 215-633-9808 or via email at magster1950@yahoo.com. Thank you Maggie, for your warm heart and caring! |

Blanket Sunday This Month
The Church World Service's Blanket Program has begun it's 57th year of making life more bearable for those who have been affected by disasters, as well as those just needing something warm to rest. All Saints' Blanket Sunday is the weekend of January 21st and January 22nd.
Your blanket program gifts make a world of difference by:
- purchasing & shipping blankets within the US and around the world
- providing material shelter supplies
- supporting self-help weaving & sewing projects through partner organizations
For every $5 you donate, a good wool or cotton-blended blanket is purchased. This is just one of the many outreach projects supported by the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) at All Saints'. Look for your blanket offering envelopes in the Saturday and Sunday leaflets. Want to write a check? Please make it payable to All Saints' with "Blanket Sunday" jotted into the memo section
Many thanks and God's blessings,
Joan Kelly, ECS Representative for Church World Services

People NewsSo many people were laid low just before or during Christmas. So many people that it is all we can do is make them known to you. Hospitalized at one time or another were Bob Buckley, George Hall, Lillian Rigby, Marion Christenson, Betty Seuffert, Rosella Laidlaw, Maria Fitti, Don Espenshade, Emily Simon, Joe Deissler, Wayne MacDougall, Hermine Thompson, Mike Ryan ... and those are just the people we know about! Some have returned home, some are still hospitalized and some have moved to rehab. Unfortunately, Steve came down with a virus at the same time and did not want to be a risk to others' immune systems, so it has been phone calls and cards instead of visits. Christmas is such a hard time to be sick, injured or not feeling well. Your prayers, please, for all these folk and anyone else away from home or home bound during the holiday.
Jim & Catherine McPhillips have returned from an unanticipated trip to Ireland. It was the hardest of trips to say what may have been a final farewell to Jim's brother, Sean. And at Christmas time, too. Sean is in the last stages of inoperable liver cancer. He told Jim & Catherine he is now leaving his time, "In the good Lord's hands." Your prayers, please, for Sean and all the McPhillips family.
A new permanent address for Rosella Laidlaw: Harbor View Apartments #402 9503 State Road Philadelphia, PA 19114 215-632-9266 Welcome to your new home, Rosella. And don't forget to call us for the Housewarming party!
Dot & Bob Buckley would like to thank everyone for their prayers and kindness at the death of Dot & Bob's grandson, Kevin Buckley, and during Bob's hospitalization that followed. Your thoughts and prayers meant so much to them.
Nora & Tony Perry were caught off guard last month. December 18th to be exact. The next thing Nora & Tony knew they were being treated to a surprise 50th wedding anniversary party at Randi's courtesy of their extended family. See? There are some things you can get by those two.
The Gorbe family experienced two deaths - just weeks apart - when Vicki's mother passed away followed shortly thereafter by her father who died at the very end of November. Your prayers, please, for Vicki, John and Alexis.
The Torresdale Women's Committee would like to thank All Saints' and it's leadership for the work we do to keep our community the caring place that it is. TWC recognizes that All Saints' is especially aware of the difficulties some people face at this time of year. Thank you to Karen Lloyd Borksi, Secretary of the TCW, for the note of appreciation and also for the five $50 Shop-Rite gift cards enclosed with her note. TCW's gift will assist us in lightening the burden for some of our neighbors!
