All Saints' Episcopal Church
Church Sign 1
FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
Because Episcopal Church Canons require two!
The Annual Parish Meeting of 238 year old All Saints' Episcopal Church will convene following the 10:00 Holy Eucharist on Sunday November 14, 2010. Your presence, please, as we deliberate worship, ministry, budget, elections and appointments for 2011. What else? A whole lot of thank-you's to the many parishioners - volunteers and all worshipers alike - who have made worship and ministry possible in 2010. Where would we be without you?! Thanks be to God.

Northeast Committee on Homelessness and Hunger
St. Mark's Meal
All Saints' volunteers provided lunch preparation and served the Saturday meal at St. Mark's Church on September 4th. This was a 'take-out' meal served in the church yard. Bags were packed with sandwiches (PB & J or turkey & cheese) and complemented with apples, oranges, juice and snacks. Thanks so much to Joan Kelly, Dot Buckley, Doris DiRitis, Nancy Foster, Tony Perry and Nancy Umfer for the sandwich prep. And to Nora Perry, Myrna Weinstein, Heidi & Gretchen Rodgers, Margo Hoffmaster, and JoAnn Tempest for the assembly line packaging of the meals.

Joan kept count. We served 53 adults and 12 children on the 4th. And we had a sufficient number of meals remaining to offer a second single lunch bag to all who wanted 'seconds'.  Our servers for the day were Nora & Tony, Myrna, Joan and Nick Horsfall, a parishioner from St. Mark's.

A Request for Help Serving
The Committee overseeing the meal program is asking for volunteers to serve (no cooking or prep involved) on Thanksgiving Day (November 25th), Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Each of those meals will be served around Noon. If you are available for any or all of these days, please see or call Myrna Weinstein at 215-632-7828 or Nora Perry at 215-342-5611 or <tnperry568@comcast.net>. Thanks so much!

ECW Cake Sale
October 3rd
It's ECW's Fabulous Cake Sale! At Coffee Hour after the 10:00 Eucharist on Sunday October 3rd. The 'fabulous' part? If anybody in the parish who has a flour jar (the other stuff, too) and an oven and would be willing to contribute a cake or cookies, well, that would make the sale even 'fabulous-er'. We need homemade cakes or box cakes, not store-bought. Oh, another thing. If you bake it you can also buy it! Is that a deal? What is really good about this - besides the icing - is that all proceeds go toward the outreach and mission work supported by All Saints' Episcopal Church Women. Sunday, October 3rd ... The only Sunday flour-dust fingerprints are permitted on prayer books and hymnals.
Thank you from ECW's Rosella Laidlaw.

Episcopal Relief and Development Sunday
October 16th & 17th
Episcopal Relief and Development, formerly known as The Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief, is one of 3 ministries sponsored annually by All Saints' chapter of Episcopal Church Women. ECW encourages everyone to make a contribution to Episcopal Relief and Development on Saturday evening October 16th or Sunday morning October 17th. ER-D assists around the world to help alleviate poverty and fight disease as well as responding to disasters both here and abroad. ER-D is about serving people in need. A special envelope will be provided in your Saturday evening or Sunday morning leaflet. If you can help with cash or checks made payable to All Saints' with ER-D written in the memo section, our Episcopal Church Women will see to it that all contributions are forwarded to Episcopal Relief and Development. Thank you and God Bless.

A Bazaar Thank-You!
A big thank you to everyone who spent so many summer mornings and afternoons at church crafting gifts and ornaments for All Saints' Christmas Bazaar set for December 3rd & 4th. Who are these elf-type folk? Our thanks to Margo Hoffmaster, Maggie McKinney, Joan Kelly, Nancy Foster, Dot Buckley, Doris DiRitis, Doris Horrell, Nora Perry, Emily Miskofsky, Camryn Ryan, and Carol Heyer for their artistry and nimble fingers. Our Bazaar will be that much better because of their work.

Parish News
The Town Crier Report

There is much to report this month so let's begin with the regret of having to say good-bye to Betsy & Walt Ashcroft who will be leaving All Saints' and moving to their new home in Palm Bay, FL on November 22nd. Betsy says she'll miss her All Saints' friends but it's time to start a new chapter in life. God speed to Betsy & Walt. We will miss them .... Keeping up with Joe & Loretta Deissler is tough even when Joe is on the mend. He fell at church while attending the September Breakfast Club. We followed him to ICU at Aria, to  a step-down unit, another unit, and finally to River's Edge for rehab. And Loretta with him all the way. In addition to some left side involvement Joe's biggest complaint was no TV coverage of the Phillies in ICU. All of this happening just as the Deissler's are moving to their new address: Harbor View Towers. 9503 State Road to be exact. Zip is 19114. Our prayers and presence are with Loretta and Joe as he continues stroke recovery .... Carl Friedrich was briefly hospitalized and has since returned to his residence at the Veterans' Home .... Long-time parishioners of All Saints' will remember the Rev. John Margos who assisted us at church several years ago. All will remember his wonderful sense of humor and his kindness. Your interim Rector knew John when both served in the Conestoga Deanery of the diocese. With sadness Linda Chinn reported to us the news of John's death on September 19th. John's family has asked that any memorials be directed in his name to Episcopal Community Services. May John's soul, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace .... And, of course, the death of Irvin Reese was reported to parishioners by separate announcement. The husband of Georgiann Teater, Irv died September 3rd while hospitalized. His funeral was held at Givnish Funeral Home on Academy Road. May Irv's soul, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace .... Congratulations to the Rev. Richard Robyn, Rector of Trinity Oxford, and his partner, Peter Datos. Richard and Peter's life union was celebrated and blessed by our assisting bishop, the Rt. Rev. Rodney Michel, on September 24th .... Cary Rush, Senior Warden of All Saints', was elected as one of Pennypack Deanery's representatives to Diocesan Council. Cary's election occurred at the deanery business meeting preceding the pre-convention gathering held at All Saints' on September 23rd. He will serve a 3-year term as a member of the Council .... Sam Simon went through surgery to relieve a carotid artery blockage just before he was about to begin chemotherapy treatments following surgery for stomach cancer. Sam appears to have made a remarkable come-back. He is off to rehab and then on to his chemo regimen. At this writing he is in and out of his chair and making predictions about the end-of-the season Phillies. Emily? We don't know what kind of baseball nut Emily is but she's certainly rooting for Sam .... Robert Swider of badge-totin' Philadelphia Parking Authority fame has retired! September 13th to be exact. How is Madolyn putting up with him in the kitchen 24/7? Will it be like Irene telling a certain Episcopal Clergy-type to go out and find something to do? Time will tell .... Ann Terry continues her stay at River's Edge. We hope for her return soon to her home which was built by her late husband .... Chris Tyson, one of our newer parishioners, has volunteered her services to any young person needing help with reading, English, or grammar. Chris, by the way, is also one of our newest Sunday School helpers. You can reach her at 215-342-2637. A fitting conclusion to the Town Crier column is this announcement from Nazareth Academy: The Nazareth Academy High School 8th grade Entrance/Scholarship Exam will be held on Saturday October 30th at 7:45 a.m. Registration deadline is Friday October 15th. Registration forms and additional information can be had by calling 215-268-1026.
Here endeth the Town Crier report.

We know you're doin' it ...

so how about doing it with us?

(This announcement rated PG)
We know you are. We've seen you. You're doing it in the shower. You're doing it in the car. We saw you ... your window was down and we were next to you in the other lane. You're doing it in the kitchen. We know that, too. Neighbors talk. So how about doing it with us? Our choir would like more singers! Read music? Helpful but not necessary. Your voice? Necessary. Men and women. We have the music and the words. Think of it as your own Karaoke moment.

Come see our Organist/Choir Director, Dr. Joe, and tell him you would like to do it with us. Thanks!

Editor's note: due to the increased size of the monthly news letter and because of space limitations, we are only listing birthdays and anniversaries of active parishioners. In the past we have included the names of people who were once active or who have moved away. If we have omitted someone who remains active at All Saints' please call the office and let us know. Thanks very much for your understanding.
