Fad 1 and FAD 2 - Family Advocacy (social skills/recreational)

Description: There are two different options for our FAD program. FAD 1 is an informal social and recreational group where member come together in a relaxed setting. FAD 2 meets twice a month to help develop social skills, develop connections with others and reinforce strengths.

*Girls Night Out (Social skills)

Age Range: 7-11
Description: Girls' Night Out is a social club for girls 10 - 13 on the autistic spectrum. Girls will have the opportunity to socialize, meet new friends, and connect with others! Moms will be able to relax, socialize, and share experiences.

*Grandparent Support Group

Description: Meet other grandparents who share the special struggles of a grandchild with ASD

Moving Forward (social/ recreational)

Description: An informal social and recreational group for adults that meets weekly.

Relax and Relate (social/recreational)

Age Range: High school students

Description: A new social club for high-school teens with autism spectrum disorders and/or developmental disabilities. Participate in fun activities, snack and chat, interact, practice, and learn about social behaviors in a supported enviornment.

Parent Management Training (PMT)

Agency: WJCS

Location: Hartsdale and Peekskill clinics  

Age Range: For parents of children on the autistic spectrum

Description: Parents will learn new ways to understand their child's behavior and will practice skills and techniques for effectively handling problem behaviors.

*Project Lifesaver (wristband transmitter program)

Description: Project Lifesaver is a wristband transmitter program for children and adults diagnosed with ASD and other developmental disabilities who wander.

Spectrum Baseball (baseball)

Agency: Miracle League of Westchester & WJCS
Location: Games are held at Miracle Field, Ridge Road Park, Hartsdale, NY
Age Range: 5+
Description: The Miracle League and WJCS offer a free, non-competitive league for children with an autism spectrum disorder. The league uses a "buddy" system where each player is paired with an able-bodied peer.

Age Range: Young adults 19-30

Description: This informal social and recreational group meets twice a month to help develop social skills, improve connections with others, and reinforce strengths. The relaxed setting allows members to come together in a non-threatening environment to share their personal experiences, gain emotional support, insight and strategies for coping with the daily struggles of work, family, and friends.

Teen Groups for Relationships and Sexuality (social skills)

Description: A professionally-led group for teens with Autism Spectrum Disorders, this group offers an overview on important subjects of safety, boundaries, and the essentials of healthy relationships and sexuality.

Therapuetic Social Skills (TSS) Groups (social skills)

Age Range: Children 4-14

Description: A variety of social skills groups based on age and ability for children diagnosed with ASD. Teaches essential social skills and provides for a supportive atmosphere in which youngsters can practice their skills.

Yad B'Yad (Hand-in-Hand)

Description: A synagogue based inclusive program for Jewish teenagers with developmental challenges that focuses on social skills and Jewish education.

Project Stride - Skiing and Snowboarding

Description: Stride Adaptive Sports offers lessons for all disabilities. Stride hosts three mountain resorts to choose from for adaptive skiing and snowboarding lessons:  Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Hancock, MA; Catamount Mountain in Hillsdale, NY; Ski Sundown in New Hartford, CT.

Rise Above  (theater)

        Age Range: for children in 1st-3rd grades with learning differences 

Description: Original musical screenplay combines familar tunes with messages about friends and partnering. Learn the basics of musical theater, self confidence and how to perform in front of people. Children will also learn to work together, follow instruction an improve gross motor skills through easy dance steps and more, all in a fun, relaxed environment. Fall classes: Wednesdays, 4:30-6:00 p.m September-May. Final performance in May.

Saturday Night Out (social/recreational)

Description: This supervised program offers kids a venue to socialize on the weekends with their friends. Parents drop off their child at a designated place which might be bowling, movies, sport events, local plays or a restaurant. Children begin to build independence as they learn how to manage money, behave in a safe and appropriate manner in the community, and interact with one another during a fun social activities.

SNACC After-School Program  (social/recreational)

Agency: JCC of Mid-Westchester

Age Range: Pre-K - 6th Grade

Description: Enrichment programs that are appropriate for children with ADHD, speech/language delays, Learning Disabilities, Asperger's Syndrome, PDD or any social and emotional problems. Classes are personalized to support each child's individualized needs.

Description: WJCS' Havorah program provides unique opportunities to experience Jewish life for people with developmental disabilities who live in community residences, independently or with their families. Description: Matan's self-contained classes serve children who benefit from smaller class sizes and shorter instruction time, and accommodate children with significant learning disabilities, developmental disorders, and other issues that affect learning and peer interaction. About Us:

The WJCS Autism Family Center offers a range of supports and services to reduce the stresses and relieve the sense of isolation for youth, adults, and families affected by Autism. Individuals with ASD can find a variety of services. Family members can join on a formal and informal basis to build support. The AFC offers all members of the community (families, individuals, and professionals) a centralized information and referral resource.
