IYCD News May 2012

BKS

"One of the reasons why, as a teacher of asana, I am so intense, is that I want to give the students one and a half hours of present life in a lesson."

"Those who live in reality, which can only be the present, will assuredly die, but will have lived before they die. Many people die without having lived. This is true cellularly, as well as psychologically. By perfect positioning in asana, we flood our cells with life, which is nothing but present awareness. The cells too will die -- but first they will have lived."     -B.K.S. Iyengar

Devki Desai, one of the teachers from Guruji's Institute in Pune, India, will lead a donation-based healing mantra session

to raise money for The Yoga Group.  This chanting meditation will

also bless the joining of the Cancer Group and The Yoga Group as a unified non-profit organization to provide free yoga classes for people dealing with potentially life-threatening illness.  Please join us Saturday, May 19th,11:45-12:15.   A Bake Sale will be held during

Devki's weekend workshop, May 18-20.  There will be vegan and gluten-free options.  All proceeds will fund The Yoga Group.  Come by and chant for healing with us,  and enjoy home baked goodies.  If you'd like to bake some goodies, let us know.

Transitions

Daniel Campbell Bowen was a devoted practitioner of yoga and all that life celebrates.   Dan was a noted Colorado Public Defender.  He was a  regular member of the Yoga Group's Cancer class the last couple years of his struggle with pancreatic cancer.  The class remembers him as the soft-spoken gentleman, who was always sitting tall with eyes closed waiting for class to start, and who would remind us to chant the OMs at the end.  He will be missed and our hearts go out to his wife, Celisa, family and friends.
