Len Tantillo - The Fine Art of Historical and Marine Painting
DEC PROGRAM
Len Tantillo will explain the artistic process he uses to create historically accurate art depicting
scenes from hundreds of years ago. He will focus on his first attempt at such work, "Manhattan,
1660," when he began with a map from 1670 that resides in an Italian museum and went on to
create a nearly photo realistic depiction of Manhattan as it was in 1660. Discussion of this work
will allow his audience to "see" a place, both as it is now and as it was 400 years ago. His later
pieces all center on New York State in general, and, often, the Hudson Valley in particular,
making his work of special interest to our audience for its regional historic, technical, and, of
course, artistic aspects.
