Bits and Pieces: by Vicki Kurashige
Hello to all receiving our very first
newsletter, bringing you tidings of the library and its patrons.
We are very lucky to have Alex Romeo living in the neighborhood. He is spiffing up the library's entrance for his Eagle Scout project, with a
new stone wall, new plantings and a bright sign on the way. Plants and
materials were donated by members of our community. Alex had help from his dad, and fellow
scouts, Matthew and Brendon Caluneo and Kyle Meredith. Thank-you!
Inside the library, we also have a fresh look. There is a new carpet, thanks to a grant from Rep. Tim Gordon and nicely installed by Schroeders Flooring. The childrens' section has a new bookcase crafted from our old shelves by Gunnar Seigh.
Rep. Gordon is collecting new or gently used childrens' books for his 'United Through Reading' program. This plan helps our troops connect with their children by recording a service member reading a picture book and sending a DVD home to his/her child(ren). If you can donate books, please bring them to the library and we will get them to Rep. Gordon.

Volunteering
Some of the area's
retirees are helping tutor Ichabod Crane Middle School students during their 'extended
day.' According to the volunteers, it is a win-win situation. If you are interested, please
contact the library.
Thank-you to all our
library volunteers, who help us run a patron-friendly library. We really need you! And if you would like to join us,
please ask at the front desk.
