Christmas Concert 2009
Biserica Crestina Baptista Ciacova |
After Romania was declared a communist republic of the USSR in 1947, citizens were forced to abandon many of their Christmas traditions. Since the overthrow of communism in 1989 Romania is slowly going back to many of the earlier ways. Once again the Christmas Season, for some, is being observed with joyous celebrations. For the poor it still remains a distant memory.
Your Christmas Gift for basics such as Groceries, Heat and Shelter will help put the 'Merry' back in Christmas for people like Elena, an abandoned Mother with six children; for Teresa, an elderly, frail widow living on her own; for Carmen, a bed-ridden lady with a mentally handicapped son; Gypsy families, and many others.

Firewood ...
For most of us living in North America about the only time we think about firewood is when we go camping or perhaps use it in a decorative fireplace to create ambience. Not so for most villages in former eastern bloc countries. In Romania their only source of heat, in below zero winters, is firewood. Many can't afford it and spend cold nights and days scrounging scraps of wood. This is very burdensome, or even impossible, especially for the elderly living on their own. Tabita Ministries supplies firewood for some elderly people and for our emergency shelter. A load of firewood will last approximately 3-4 months.

Emergency Shelter ... Lack of finances for maintenance and poor building quality prior to the 1980's has left many of Romania's houses in dilapidated condition. Many families live in extremely crowded conditions. The communist era apartment buildings are in serious condition needing major renovations to the heating and water systems, roofs and exteriors. Unprecedented flooding in the past few years has also left thousands without homes. Tabita Ministries rents a house and has established 'Casa Agape' (House of Love) to accommodate those in need of emergency shelter.
RENT AND UTILITIES / MONTH ... $ 250.00 DONATE |
Grocery Hampers ... Government help for the needy in Romania is minimal. Emergency Food and Clothing is provided in part through container shipments from Canada and purchased locally for distribution to those in need. This not only helps with physical needs but there is great hope in knowing that someone cares. While groceries and clothing are delivered opportunity is taken to offer counseling and prayer for spiritual needs. This program is a practical way to demonstrate the Love of Christ.
