Greetings!
As our summer brigade season comes to an end, we are so thankful and amazed at how many lives have been touched by those who came to serve here. It is no small sacrifice to give up vacation time, and the necessary cash to participate in a short term mission trip. We feel honored and blessed to have hosted over 300 individuals this brigade season. To those who came, thank you! To those who didn't come this year, we hope you will consider coming next year!
Blessings, Phil and Donna Waldron Mission UpReach www.missionupreach.com |

Teaching the Bible to Those Who Cannot Read
For the past couple of months, two of our Mission UpReach team members, René Rosa and Eric Huiza, have been working in a small village church teaching adults who cannot read a methodology that will allow them to teach others the Bible. New Tribes Missions has a system of 105 pictures depicting scenes from the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. They have used these pictures to teach the entire Bible to tribes that don't have a written language. We ordered their material and have adapted it to teach the Bible in our cultural setting. In this particular congregation, there are two adult men and four adult women who are very active. The challenge is that none of them can read and write. Our goal is to successfully teach them the stories associated with each picture so that they can share these stories with their neighbors and friends. We will keep you posted on the outcomes. Please be praying for this particular ministry. |
Basketball Outreach
Scott Galloway, a professional basketball trainer and coach, came once again to help us with our children and youth basketball league.
Originally he came for the first time in December last year in order to kick off the program that we have initiated. He was very pleased with the results when he saw many of those same kids from his December basketball camp.
This ministry coupled with our DESEO program continues to be, in our opinion, one of the ministries that will have most impact on this community over the long term.

Burnt Hickory church realizes a Medical Clinic
The Burnt Hickory church from Kennesaw, GA helped us with a medical brigade in Yarushín. The little church plant that we have there had been struggling with some other churches saying that our little church was satanic. Our evangelist Juan Carlos reports that after the medical brigade the community is talking very positive about the church.
One thousand people received a consultation with a doctor and free medicines.

Note From Donna
As I type, we are in our last week of summer mission team visits. It has been a great season and many have been blessed as a result. To sum up, since our first brigade in January, we have served 4200 with medical consults and medication, 1800 with vision checks and glasses, pulled 1000 rotten teeth, painted 3 schools, painted 2 extensive murals at schools, constructed 2 concrete walls around school perimeters, all 13 schools in our DESEO program had at least two visiting groups with special activities, and one school now has concrete floors, windows, doors, and stucco walls. Sacrificial servants who gave up their vacation time and financial resources to come and give to the poor accomplished all of this. The best part is that it was done in the name of Jesus Christ for God's glory.
While we are all pretty exhausted, we thank God every day that He has allowed us to be the ones who stay behind and reap the harvest of the seed that has been planted.
Please pray that we will have the endurance and wisdom to manage the opportunities that the good works of others bring our way. Thank you for your financial support, prayers, and the kind words you manage to send our way!

James Mangrum Passes
This is a picture of Brother James with Carlos Perdomo and the small church in Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara. Following is a letter that one of Brother James's friends sent us and asked that we publish it: "James Mangrum passed away July 4, 2012 at his home in Hermitage, TN after a long battle with bone cancer. James retired from Ford Glass Plant after a thirty-year career in order to devote his life to mission work. He was active in personal evangelism, visitation, and the meals on wheels program and as a member of the Missions Committee at the Hermitage congregation however his passion was foreign missions. He made over one hundred mission trip to other countries including sixty six trips to Honduras where he worked tirelessly in helping to establish congregations, building homes and church buildings and encouraging both young and older preachers. He gave much of his time and finances in establishing at least fourteen congregations in western Honduras. Here he is pictured in La Entrada, Copán where he was instrumental in establishing three different congregations. He also worked in other countries including México, Russia, and Guyana. James was a big man, both physically and spiritually. He had a big heart, a big smile and a big love for lost souls. James will be sadly missed by all of his friends and family. He leaves behind his wife of twenty-nine and one half years, Jean, who always gave him her full support and encouragement in his mission efforts. Together they made a great team. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea saith, the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works follow them". Rev. 14:13 |
