Schedule Changes

Student of the Month: Deepa & Kanwal

The month of May always reminds us that Mothers Day is just around the corner. Our Student of the Month is a loving wife and mother. When we chose her, we couldn't help but also feature her handsome husband and extremely adorable little daughter. This brought us to choosing our very first family trio as our May Student(s) of the Month. They are Deepa, Kanwal, and of course little Riya.

Deepa and Kanwal Bagri are the sweet couple that practice regularly at our Farmington Hills location. They often meet at the studio to pass off Riya, so the other can take a class. Their yoga practice started about 3 years ago, and both have not looked back. Having experienced many great benefits from their practice; from lower doses of medications, weight loss, to even in their relationship, which has made them both more forgiving, and compassionate. Even though the postures are always the same, to them, the practice never gets boring. They enjoy the challenge as it's so rewarding!

The yoga story you are about to read may even inspire you to get your spouse into the yoga studio! Enjoy and Happy Mothers Day!

Etiquette Violators... What To Do?

A note to our regulars:

With all the new students coming into the studio, we hear a steady stream of complaints from our regulars about etiquette violations. Let's all take a deep breath for a moment and consider the following scenario.

You are lying peacefully and quietly on your mat 15 minutes before class like the fine role model that you are. And then... a group of new students walk into the yoga room, with their shoes on, while blowing bubbles with chewing gum, while talking to each other, while some of them are texting, and the others talking on their cell phones through bluetooth earpieces.

What is a good yogi to do?

To help navigate these difficult waters, we have come up with a brief quiz:

Etiquette

Adjusting to Large Class Sizes

Many Bikram Yoga studios around the country have experienced this Groupon surge, where lots of newbies hit the studio at once, and a percentage of regular students grumble, feeling their personal space violated as a result, both physically (elbows in each others face) and mentally (seeing new students not abiding by etiquette etc).

We take everyone opinion to heart, but we also know from personal experience that any area of this practice where people are challenged is also an opportunity for growth. We mean that for real, not just new-age rhetoric!

Keep in mind everything about Bikram Yoga is designed to be uncomfortable, boundaries constantly pushed. Think back to when you started, what a struggle class was in so many ways.

Large crowded classes are often a frontier that make people uncomfortable, even regular students. We advise everyone to please take it all in stride.

If you get uncomfortable in crowded class, breath deeply and slowly (in and out through the nose) to help increase relaxation, as we do with many other challenging aspects of the practice.

If you approach this (or any) challenge with a willingness to learn and grow in your yoga practice, you will be amazed at the results!

Once you get used to large classes, the energy is very uplifting and powerful with all the people working together in the yoga room.

Enjoy the large classes while we have them, you might even miss them once the summer classes get smaller!

Attention
New GROUPON Customers

Due to the wave of new students since the April 2012 Groupon, many of the week-night classes in Troy are at capacity.

Please do not redeem your Groupon voucher for your first class at the following times in Troy:
Mon/Wed (4:30p, 6:30p) Tues/Thu (5:00p, 7:00p)

We are regretfully turning people away due to class sizes at the times listed.

If you can only attend these class times, we request that you wait until June or later to redeem your Groupon, when we expect class sizes to be smaller, OR choose other class times during the week that are not as crowded. You have until mid October to start your classes.

Please contact us with any questions.
