Greetings!
In our first newsletter of 2012, we want to give a warm welcome to the many new students who have started Bikram Yoga since January 1st. This is the time of year when many of us resolve to make healthier lifestyle choices. We know from experience that practicing Bikram Yoga on a regular basis is one of the healthiest lifestyle decisions you can make!
Yes, Bikram Yoga can be a challenging practice, especially as a new student. But if you give this practice a fair chance, it is inevitable you will experience worthwhile benefits to your health, well-being, energy, and vitality (a fair chance means: take at least 5 to 10 classes, learn how to hydrate properly, pace yourself in class, don't be competitive with yourself or others, etc).
If you are new to Bikram Yoga, and felt discouraged in any way from your initial experience, please feel free to contact us anytime with questions or concerns, or come talk to our teachers at the studio. We are here to support you and your practice to the best of our ability!
Since we did not issue a January newsletter, this newsletter celebrates two wonderful yoga students: Julie Gervais (Student of the Month January) and Dr. Jerry Aiello (Student of the Month February). We also include an important announcement about the Troy studio, which will be closed on Thursday Feb. 9th for maintenance.
If you haven't been in to class in a while, check out our updated schedule here for new class times.
Happy Sweating!
~ Ian & Jenny, and your Detroit Bikram teachers.

Student of the Month - January
| Julie Gervais, our January Student of the Month, has a lot to look back on this past year. After one of the more difficult years of her life, she is surprisingly feeling better than ever. A ballerina for over 20 years, Julie found Bikram Yoga 8 years ago, but didn't start a regular practice until 9 months ago when she was diagnosed with arthritis. Through her ups and downs this past year, she has been able to remain strong due in large to her physical and mental release she gets in a Bikram Yoga class. Determined, and eager, Julie is a dream student who no matter what always has a bright smile on her face! We are so thrilled that she has become such an important part of the Detroit Bikram community!

Student of the Month - February
|
Who would have thought, that a Delta In-Flight magazine would lead someone to a hot and sweaty Bikram Yoga class! That is exactly what happened to our motivated February Student of the Month. Dr. Jerry Aiello (a busy Chiropractor and Consultant for the Track and Field Athletic Department at the University of Michigan) started his regular Bikram Yoga practice eight months ago. An eager student from the start, Dr. Aiello soon found himself spending more of his mornings at Bikram Yoga, than at his usual Starbucks. With a hectic work/life balance, Dr. Aiello realized that through his yoga practice he has enhanced his life in more ways than one. Not only did he see immediate results in his physical strength, flexibility and mental clarity, but he has also been able to incorporate the teachings and philosophy of Bikram Yoga into his own Chiropractic work at The Aiello Group in Royal Oak. As you read his story you may ask yourself, is this the Dr. Jerry we've all been talking about? Yes it is! Enjoy!
