Due to technical issues we were not able to send our August Newsletter during the month of August to our full email list. These techincal issues have been resolved. We are sending this August Newsletter to the full email list, even though it is already September (we apologize if this is the 2nd time you receive this Newsletter).

The September Newsletter is in the works, and will be released soon.

Class Schedule Update

TROY Early Bird Alert! We now have 6am class five days a week, Monday through Friday in Troy. Enough people demanded, so we listened. Come on in for your 6am wake-up sweat!

Other Class Time Requests? if you want other class times at either studio, let us know at info@detroitbikram.com. Tell us what class time you want, and please include a reason why that time of day is good for you. If we see a pattern of enough demand we may update the schedule. For example recent requests include 9ams during the week in Troy, instead of 10am. Let us know what you think!

Student of the Month

After a hot, sweaty Bikram Yoga class, most of us leave the yoga room drenched, red faced, and couldn't bear to be seen in public! That's not the case with our August Student of the Month, Suzy Bricker. A Bikram Yoga student of over 10 years, Suzy leaves class looking as glamorous and put together as she did when she walked in...with a healthy rosy glow on her face.

Having overcome cancer and divorce in a four-year span, Suzy will be the first to tell you that it is through her Bikram Yoga practice that she was able and prepared to get through these life challenges.  To Suzy, Bikram Yoga has changed her life in more ways than one.

Suzy is now a busy Health Coach with her own radio station where she gives insight and information on changing your life for the better.  We are so honored to have Suzy at our Detroit Bikram studios. She is a positive ray of light who is warm, caring, and truly dedicated to her life of health and wellness. Keep it up Suzy!

Bikram Choudhury in Detroit, Oct 15th

 

Bikram Choudhury is coming to the Metro Detroit area for a special Lecture & Book Signing event on October 15, 2011, 6-10pm at the Marquis Theather in Northville.

 

This is a rare opportunity to see and hear Bikram in person. If you have any interest, make sure to sign-up as soon as possible to reserve a seat!

 

To register for this event, our Detroit Bikram yoga students are welcome to sign up at the front desk in our Farmington Hills and Troy studios. The cost is $50 for early sign-up, or $60 at the door the night of the event.

Summer 2011 - "Strike A Pose" Photo Album

 

Our "Strike A Pose" album for Summer 2011 is growing! Thank you to everyone who has send in a photo already, they are really amazing! We are looking for more photos to add to the Facebook album, send them in to info@detroitbikram.com.

WELCOME NEW STUDENTS
 A warm welcome to the many new yoga students who have attended classes since the July 2011 Groupon!

It's great to see so many new faces at the studio, and with so many positive attitudes.

Due to the intensity of Bikram Yoga, there is always a mixed reaction to the 'first-class' experience, which can range from 'I love it' to 'this is not for me'. Most  fall somewhere in between.

Please keep in mind, especially if you felt overwhelmed in your first few classes, that it takes about 5 to 10 classes to acclimate to exercising in the hot room, and to learn how to hydrate properly.  


Listen to your body during class, take breaks when you need to by standing still or sitting down, and sip water when thirsty etc.


Don't worry if you can't do all the postures, or have trouble with your balance and flexibility, all that improves over time. It's very important that you don't compare yourself or feel competitive with other people in the room.

Persistence is so important as a beginner, try to attend class 3x per week or more. This will help you acclimate to the hot room, build strength and stamina, and steadily enjoy improvements with your health and vitality.

Talk to the teachers before or after classes, and email or call us anytime with questions you have about yoga.
