"If you have been around the yoga studio for a few months you may have heard about the 30 and 60 day yoga challenge. If you haven't heard about it, you will soon. When the weather turns cooler, a few 50-100 students will embark on 30 or 60 days of consecutive yoga. Every single day! Bikram Choudhury, the founder of Bikram Yoga says, "Give me 60 days and I will change your life." How will Yoga change your life? You may notice any one or more or all of the following benefits: increased self confidence, less aches and pains, relief from stress, greater levels of energy and vitality, weight regulation, and an immense amount of mental clarity. I am sure regular students and teachers can think of a few more to add to the list of benefits. While I encourage everyone to give the challenge a try at some point in their life, I want to encourage a different type of challenge - lifelong practice. The long haul is what we are going for. It takes a lot of dedication to come to the studio every day, for sure. But, it takes tremendous will power and inner strength to show up after taking a vacation for a week or two. It takes courage to continue to practice after an injury when your range of motion is limited. It takes self-love to keep coming even if you think you aren't immediately "good" at the postures. The benefits of Yoga lie in your ability to stick with it. See you in class!" ~ Erika B. Erika Budson Bikram Yoga Teacher, certified 2001 |
