Posture of the Month: Half Moon

 "Half Moon pose strengthens every muscle in the body's core, especially in the abdomen, and it flexes and strengthens the latisimus doris, oblique, deltoids, and trapezius muscles. It increases the flexibility of the spine comprehensively from the coccyx to the neck. Half Moon promotes kidney function, and helps to cure enlargement of the kidney and spleen. Half Moon also firms and trims the waistline, hips, abdomen, buttocks, and thighs.

A common problem we experience in Half Moon's side bend is simultaneously keeping the elbows locked and chin up. The desire and effort may be there, but the deltoids, scapula and neck have never worked together this way before. Plus, in the beginning it may hurt! Don't be scared. Be grateful and patient! Something wonderful is happening. Each time you practice the posture go one small step beyond discomfort. Stretch to the threshold of pain, and no further. Each day the threshold should recede and you'll have to go farther and farther to reach it. Of course, if you have a specific medical problem, you need to regulate yourself accordingly."

Student of the Month
Student of the Month: Julius
We are pleased to announce Julius Schulman as our first ever Student of the Month! Julius is 85 years old and has attended 56 classes since he started with us four months ago. We are  inspired by his commitment to this yoga practice and to his own health and fitness. We are honored to be in his company and we appreciate his lively sense of humor.

"I am very happy to be Student of the Month! This is neat! At my age, I didn't expect to be named top student for anything! I have worked out at the Farmington YMCA for over twenty years, doing water aerobics, the elliptical trainers and lifting weights. I have always enjoyed doing this, but I began having lots of aches and joint pain.

I joined this yoga class in September of 2009 on a trial basis to see if it would help reduce my back aches and other pains. After two weeks, my back aches had been reduced tremendously. After an introductory trial period of one month, I committed myself for six months. I have settled on a three day a week routine, and sometimes I do four days.

The camaraderie of my locker room mates and the coffee klatches after class have been very enjoyable. This is a really great group here. I was surprised at how many muscles I had not been using, but I am slowly progressing. I can feel myself making progress with all the positions.

My children and companion tell me that at 85 years old, I should not be doing this kind of yoga, but now I am addicted!"    ~ Julius Schulman

Studio Announcements

Class Schedule Update
In the past few months we have added several new classes. We have recently added a noon class on Saturday and Sunday. Also a new 11:30am class on Friday will be added starting February 12th. View our full schedule here


Pricing Changes
  • Monthly Autopay - effective February 15th the monthly autopay contract price for new sign-ups will be $95 for all payment methods (credit card, debit card, and checking account). Current autopay members will continue paying their current price, as long as you maintain your membership

  • 6 Month Unlimited - effective Feb 15th this pay-up-front package will be offered at $550
  • Youth Drop In - we now offer $10 single class fee for youth 22 years old and under. Valid ID required.

  • Youth Student Discount - we now offer a 10% discount on class packages for full time students who are 22 years old and under. Valid student and age ID required
