Matt Emmons makes his mark-winning his third World Cup gold medal of the year in Men's 50m Rifle 3 Position. Despite windy conditions, Emmons scored 1278.4 total points and was on top of his game. He also finished fourth in Men's 50m Rifle Prone, behind USA's SGT Michael McPhail who bested the competition for a gold medal. McPhail scored 702.8 points. In Men's 10m Air Pistol, SFC Daryl Szarenski fell short of a bronze medal by 1.3 points. His teammate Brian Beaman placed sixth. Also competing in a final was USA's Jamie Beyerle, who finished fifth in Women's 10m Air Rifle. |
| USAS Rifle & Pistol National Championships |
SFC Daryl Szarenski and Resident Athlete Teresa Meyer reigned supreme at the National Championships. Both acquired not one, but two national titles. SFC Szarenski dominated Men's 50m Free Pistol and Men's 10m Air Pistol, while Meyer was the top lady in Women's 25m Sport Pistol and Women's 10m Air Pistol. Rifle and Pistol National Championships also served to solidify the junior team that National Coaches Dave Johnson and Sergey Luzov will take to Munich, Germany to compete at the World Shooting Championships. Fresh off his World Cup USA silver medal in Men's 50m Rifle 3 Position, SFC Jason Parker claimed the national title as well-dominating with a 9.1 point margin over the silver medalist. Resident Athlete Amy Sowash now holds the Women's 50m Rifle 3 Position national title. For complete results of all events, please visit our results page. |

Haley Dunn isn't done yet; she is back on the radar in a big way. Dunn picked up her first Women's Skeet World Cup medal of the season-gold of course. Dunn knocked out 73/75 targets in qualification and another 24/25 for a solid final-she jumped out in the lead and never looked back. Teammate Caitlin Connor, the youngest shooter in the final, finished sixth. On the Men's side, '08 gold-medalist SGT Vincent Hancock's 25-target final and 38-target shoot-off was worthy of bronze. |
| Athlete of the Month: Matt Emmons |
Three gold medals in Men's 50m Rifle 3 Position in the three World Cups he attended, makes Emmons a clear choice for the July Athlete of the Month. He smoked the competition in Sydney, Fort Benning and Belgrade-not to mention he also notched a bronze in Men's 50m Rifle Prone. A good sport, world-class athlete and now Youth Olympic Games Athlete Role Model (see below), Matt Emmons is on top of his game. |
