 Newspaper Clipping

Gateway to Oklahoma History

by Nicole Harvey

I sent some time going through the Gateway to Oklahoma History section on OHS's website this week.  While I enjoyed reading the numerous news stories that the site offers, I was constantly being drawn to the adverts that these older newspapers have scattered throughout them.  One that caught my eye was from the September 25, 1907 edition of The Daily Ardmoreite. The above picture shows an advert for The State University of Oklahoma, which boasted free tuition, 270 different courses and a faculty of 42.

The Gateway is an online repository of Oklahoma history, brought to you by the Oklahoma Historical Society and is accessible through any computer with an internet connection. You may browse through hundreds of thousands of newspaper pages dating from the 1840s to the 1920s.

The Gateway to Oklahoma History was made possible through funding from the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation.

Funding for additional content came from the National Endowment for Humanities, and other funding organizations. See our funding partners.
