Project OKPOP

"Crossroads of Creativity"

Oklahoma Historical Society

by Nicole Harvey, OHS

Project OKPOP supports the development of OKPOP, a statewide museum that will feature Oklahoma's creative spirit and the state's own OKPOP stars from music, movies, radio, television and literature. As the nation's "crossroads of creativity," Oklahoma is the best place to preserve our creative culture.

Cushing - Saginaw Grant

A member of the Sac and Fox Tribe and Cushing native, Saginaw Grant enjoys an impressive film and TV career. Grant grew up heavily influenced by his native heritage and in particular his grandparents. They taught Grant their customs, culture, and traditions and the importance of that way of life. Grant has worked with Hollywood notables such as Anthony Hopkins in The World's Fastest Indian (2005)Cushing Native, Saginaw Grant  and Johnny Depp in the upcoming Lone Ranger (2013).

"I'm surprised that there are that many," said Grant during a recent interview with Oklahoma Historical Society staff upon hearing how many Hollywood actors Oklahoma has produced. "There should be more. I know we have a lot of people back in Oklahoma who can really act and they can really have some stories to tell. That's what the movie is, it is a story, and there's some good stories back home. I know that."
