Children Enjoy Rose Hill School

Cherokee Strip Museum

Perry, OK

Located on the grounds of the Cherokee Strip Museum in Perry is a one-room school that houses the award winning living history program, "A Day at Rose Hill School." Throughout the school year, fourth grade students from across the state can experience a school day setRose Hill School in 1910 rural Oklahoma. The educational program is offered through a partnership between the Oklahoma Historical Society and the Cherokee Strip Historical Society.

An elementary school teacher from Angus Valley Elementary in Sand Springs recently wrote about Rose Hill School, "This program has a reputation that captures the attention of our kindergarteners through third graders. Fifth graders share their Rose Hill Rose Hill Scholarsexperiences with 4th grade students.  Parents actually delay school transfers to ensure their child will get to attend in 4th grade.  Many parents travel with us because they attended as children.  It is eagerly anticipated by all."

A Teacher's Guide may be accessed at A Day at Rose Hill.

Rural Heritage Festival

Saturday, April 28, 10am
Cherokee Strip Museum

Perry, OK

The Rural Heritage Festival celebrates our community's heritage with a fun and educational day for the whole family.  At 11:15 Rose Hill School will be in session with Morrison students, dressed in period costume. The children will wrap the Maypole at 11am and again at 12pm. This is a beautiful old custom that was often used by our ancestors to celebrate spring.  At noon the Great Plains Dulcimer Alliance will entertain the crowds with Hammered and Mountain Dulcimers and other acoustic instruments, and folk and traditional music. The Noble County Antique Tractor Association will conduct contests while also displaying their tractors, trucks, and equipment. The Saltfork Blacksmiths will demonstrate some of their many blacksmithing skills. Members of the Lace Guild of Oklahoma will provide hands-on demonstrations of lace making techniques. Many other activities will be available.
