Civil War Music Banner

This special Sesquicentennial program will feature nationally known musician and historian David Hildebrand.  The program will bring the music of America's Civil War to life for students and adults.  Spoken introductions and stories will put the songs and instruments into context while highlighting connections to the people and music of this pivotal time in American History.

On Thursday, November 3, the History Center will open its doors at 6pm for this FREE evening concert.  The program will begin at 7pm.  Seating is first-come.

Student groups may sign up for special performances at 10am and 11:30am on November 2nd and 3rd.  Registration is required for your school to participate.  To register, contact Jason Harris at jharris@okhistory.org or (405)522-0785.

This program is funded in part by the Oklahoma Humanities Council (OHC) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).  Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of the OHC or NEH.

Lafayette, I Am Here!

November 8, 2pm

UCO Nigh University Center

In honor of Veteran's Week and in conjunction with the University of Central Oklahoma's Passport Program on France, Dr. Hall Duncan will present a program called "Lafayette, I Am Here." The program is free to the public and will be held in Constitution Hall at the UCO Nigh University Center. It will include a visual presentation of Dr. Duncan's two recent trips to France to visit the battlefields and villages of World War II. Included were the French villages of Guebling and Bourgaltroff near the France-German border and the nearby battlefields where Dr. Duncan fought with the 26th Division of the 101st Infantry Regiment of General George Patton's Third Army.

Dr. Duncan is a professor emeritus from the University of Central Oklahoma. In addition to teaching in higher education, he has also served as a cartoonist, an illustrator, an author and as a missionary. In August 2011, he received eight military medals, including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star, for his actions as an infantryman nearly 70 years ago in France. He was wounded and was one of the few survivors from four days of battles near the French-German border in 1944.
