Spring Bake Day

Come watch living history presenters demonstrate how the army baked bread for its troops in the years after the Civil War.  This is one of three occasions throughout the year on which Fort Gibson usBread Loaves on Bake Dayes its wood-fired masonry oven.  Bread will be available for a nominal donation to the Friends of Fort Gibson.

Cherokee Cultural Day

Sequoyah's Cabin, Sallisaw

Friday April 8, 10am

 

On Friday, April 8, 2011, Sequoyah's Cabin will host the Spring cherokee cultural Day sponsored by the Cherokee Nation Community Development.  Presenters will demonstrate a variety of cultural crafts and games including weaving, stickball, marbles, storytelling, blacksmithing, flint-knapping and much more.  The activities take place from 10am to 2pm.  Admission is FREE.

Rural Heritage Festival

Cherokee Strip Museum, Perry

Saturday April 30, 10am

 

The Rural Heritage Festival provides an educational and fun experience to the public that will increase awareness of the rual heritage of Oklahoma. Conducted throughout the dy will be living history interpretations and various demonstrations to help visitors understand traditional skills and lifestyles associated with agriculture and rural communities.  Available will be blacksmiths, rope making, storytelling, herb lore, spinning, chuck wagon cooking, and a settlers' camp.  Rose Hill School will be in session and students will wind the May Pole.

 

The events are designed for familiesa and for people of all ages.  We are celebrating our community heritage and welcome everyone to join us for a day full of fun, relaxation and friendship.  

 

The Museum's Rural Heritage Festival is held in conjunction with Perry's Spring Festival, sponsored by the Perry Chamber of Commerce.  Spring Festival events will be held on the courthouse square and will include a Classic Car and Motorcycle Show, bicycle parade, home and garden show and a Health Fair offered by perry Memorial Hospital staff.
