Annual Meeting Banner 2011

 

You are invited to join us in Enid for the 2011 Oklahoma Historical Society Annual Meeting, Wednesday through Friday, April 27, 28 and 29.  The theme of the 2011 OHS meeting is "Winds of Change: Life on the Southern Plains."  Registration for OHS members is $15 and $20 for non-member guests.  Please download the registration form and send it to:

The 2011 meeting will feature:

 

-A Reception at the new Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center on Wednesday, April 27, at 5pm.

 

-A Michael Martin Murphey Concert on Thursday, April 28, at 7pm honoring the donors who made the new Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center possible.  This will be complimentary for those who register to attend the annual meeting and for the CSRHC museum donors.

 

-Luncheon Address by Mike Klemme, an internationally recognized photographer.  He will present "Western Oklahoma: A Photographic Survey" during the Annual Membership Luncheon.

 

-Thirteen Presentation Sessions on a wide range of topics pertaining to the meeting's theme will be presented at the Cherokee Strip Conference Center on Thursday and Friday mornings. View Conference Presentation Schedule.

 

-Tours of historic homes, Enid's downtown square, and a bus trip to historic Waynoka will be available.

 

-Annual Awards Luncheon will be held Friday, April 30.  The luncheon will feature inductions in to the Oklahoma Historians hall of Fame and other award presentations.

 

Please make plans now to attend.  To register, complete the registration form as soon as possible and return it to the OHS by April 21.  We will hold your name badge and event registration information at the Cherokee Strip Conference Center at 123 West Maine.

 

If you have not already reserved a hotel room in Enid, please see the information below about the the three hotels that have offered convention rates for the meeting.

Convention Hotels for OHS Annual Meeting

April 27-29, Enid, OK

 

Three hotels in Enid have been selected as OHS convention hotels for people attending the OHS Annual Meeting on April 27, 28, and 29.  There are, of course, numerous other hotels in Enid and members are free to select from any of them.  However, these three are close to the Cherokee Strip Conference Center (123 W. Maine St.), which is where the conference sessions will be held. 

 

The convention hotels include the Baymont Inn and Suites, Comfort Inn Midwestern Square, and Holiday Inn Express

 

The rate at the Baymont Inn and Suites will be $72.00 for non-smoking rooms or smoking rooms with double beds.  Rooms with king-sized beds are available at the same rate.  The rooms will be held until March 30.  The Baymont is located at 3614 West Owen K. Garriott.  Reservations may be made by calling Baymont's central reservations toll-free at 800-992-2694 or contacting the hotel directly at 580-234-6800.

 

The rate at the Comfort Inn Midwestern square will be $89.95 for double queen, single king, and king suite rooms.  Rooms will be held until April 6.  Located at 210 North Van Buren, reservations may be made by calling central reservations at 800-424-6423 or by contacting the Inn directly at 580-234-1200.

 

Rooms at the Holiday Inn Express, located at 4702 West Owen K. Garriott, will be available at $103.00 for double queen or single king non-smoking or smoking rooms.  Note that the number of smoking rooms is limited.  Rooms will be held until April 6.  Reservations may be made by calling central reservations toll-free at 800-345-6082 or the Inn directly at 580-237-7722.

OHS Annual Meeting to feature a Concert by

Michael Martin Murphey

April 27-29, 2011

 

The Annual Meeting Committee, chaired by Bob Klemme of Enid, has announced that a highlight of the Annual Meeting next April will be a concert by recording artist Michael Martin Murphey.  The concert will be held at the Briggs Auditorium on the campus of Northern OklahomaCollege in Enid on the evening of Thursday, April28, 2011.

 

Staged by the OHS to thank the donors who made the creation of the new Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center in Enid possible, the concert is an invitation only event.  Those donors and their families will be invited to obtainMichael Martin Murphey tickets to the concert by the Friends of the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center. 

 

In addition, OHS members who register to attend the Annual Meeting will be invited.  There will be no charge for the concert but individuals must have a ticket to attend.  Annual Meeting presenters, session moderators, OHS employees and volunteers who work at the Annual Meeting also will be invited to the concert.

 

Murphey is the best-selling singer/songwriter of American Cowboy Music who also has enjoyed success as a singer/songwriter in the Pop and Country-Western fields.  A founder of the "Texas Music Scene" at Austin in 1970, he was the first singer/songwriter of this Austin scene to be signed to a major record label while living and performing in Austin.  His first "Cowboy Songs" album became the first gold album of Cowboy Music since Marty Robbins.

 

Murphey is considered to be the world's most prominent musical representative of the western horseman, the horse rancher, cattle rancher, and cowboy.
