Junior League Exhibit Celebrates Volunteerism

Oklahoma History Center

The Junior League exhibit is about celebrating volunteerism and how the volunteers of the Junior League of Oklahoma City have helped to shape our community for the past 80 years.  In addition to the $4.6 million the Junior League has given the Oklahoma City community since 1927 through fundraisers, in 2009 Junior League members volunteered over 16,000 volunteer hours, valued at $272,000.  Three of the signature projects from JLOC are:  The Zone at Children's Hospital, Oklahoma City Metro Literacy Coalition, and the Jungle Gym at the OKC Zoo.  Some of the independent agencies that were initially convened by the JLOC members include:  Rainbow Fleet, Myriad Gardens, Rebuilding Together, the Speech and Hearing Clinic, Leadership Oklahoma City, and many more.

The exhibit will be installed in 3 different phases with the projected finish of the first phase by January 11th.  The project should be completed by the end of February, 2011.  If you have any questions, please contact Lori Oden, Curator of Exhibits, by phone at (405)522-0780 or by email at loden@okhistory.org.
