OHS ADDRESS CHANGES TO 800 NAZIH ZUHDI DRIVE The previously unnamed entry drive to the Oklahoma History Center recently was named Nazih Zuhdi Drive in honor of Dr. Nazih Zuhdi of Oklahoma City in recognition of his contributions to medical science and his generous support of the Oklahoma History Center. A world-renowned pioneer in cardiology whose work made possible open-heart surgery on a massive scale for the first time, Zuhdi also was a leader in the creation of artificial hearts and heart transplant surgery. Since the 1950s he has brought international attention and acclaim to Oklahoma while working at Mercy Hospital and then Integris Baptist Hospital. At Integris he established the Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute, which consistently has been ranked in the top five transplant centers in the nation. The Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Historical Society voted to honor Zuhdi
Annette Zuhdi and Dr. Nazih Zuhdi | with the naming of the drive. They also named the circular drive at the entrance of the History Center in honor of Annette Zuhdi, Dr. Zuhdi's wife. Nazih Zuhdi Drive and Annette Zuhdi Circle were dedicated during a ceremony at the Oklahoma History Center on Thursday, April 22. Attending were invited relatives, friends, and colleagues of the Zuhdis. Any mail addressed to the OHS or History Center at the previous address, 2401 North Laird Avenue, will continue to be delivered for at least one year. The zip code for the new address is 73105-7917. |
