Fort Washita Fur Trade Rendezvous
March 31 - April 4, Fort Washita
Visit Historic Fort Washita on March 31 - April 4 for the 1840's Fur Trade Rendezvous. Visitors will see trappers, traders and mountain men from the fur trade era. Archery, knife and hawk, smooth bore, rifle and pistol competitions will be held Saturday.

Changes in OHS Admission Charges The need to raise additional revenue in the face of major budget cuts has led the Oklahoma Historical Society to begin charging for admission to some of its historical sites and museums statewide. Many of these facilities previously did not charge for admission. OHS members, however, will remain exempt from these charges upon showing a current membership card. Here are the admission charges now in place. Berwyn, OK Renamed Gene Autry by Rachel Mosman, Associate Photo Archivist
In 1941 the town of Berwyn, in Carter County, changed its name to Gene Autry after the actor and singer. According to Jon May's article on the town Gene Autry in the Oklahoma Historical Society's Encyclopedia of History and Culture, "An estimated thirty-five thousand people attended the ceremony on November 16, 1941." http://digital.library.okstate.edu/encyclopedia/entries/G/GE003.html)

Overholser Mansion Restoration Project by Valerie Haynes, Museums Director As you may know, Phase I of the restoration project began with restoration of the windows of the mansion and was completed in April of 2009. Phase II of the restoration project has now begun and will involve repair of the roof, re-pointing and metal work and painting of metal work of both the Carriage House and the Mansion. The project should be completed this spring. We will keep you updated of the restoration work as it progress. Look What's Cooking at the Mansion Join us Saturday March 4th at 11:00 a.m. at the Overholser Mansion Carriage House for a cooking class/demonstration by Suan Grant of Suan's Foods. Suan Grant has recently launched her delicious Scotch Bonnett Pepper Jelly under her very own label. Suan will be demonstrating and sharing some of her recipes using her delicious jelly.
